While older folks come and go for a task, Adams and her social circle are just as likely to socialize online as off. This is partly a function of how much more comfortable young people are on the Web: Fully 87% of 12- to 17-year-olds use the Internet, vs. two-thirds of adults, according to the Pew Internet & American Life Project. |

Where do those statistics come from?
As a "high-tech nerd" father of a bona fide Yuppie, my observation is that "adults" (people 40+) do indeed use the net in the fashion described.
My 3 kids use the net, also, in the fashion described above, but also do the face-to-face thing when possible. The "kids" are 24, 27 and 30, respectively.
The reason I think that is because I get invited to some of the get-togethers these kids come up with. |
