What happened is, the people found out they could vote themselves money out of the public coffers and the politicians accommodated them by filling those coffers with tax dollars. It's a redistribution of wealth brought about by democracy. Ironic, eh? _________________ HHC 212th CAB MMAF RVN '70-'71 |

And that is exactly what has caused the demise of every democracy in History. Usually takes about 200 yrs.
How long has the United States been around?

I just had to pay a fee for a city permit (tax) for a plumber to replace the water heater in my home. Portland wants to levy a tax on anyone using a cell phone within their city.
In my opinion, fines for speeding tickets are just enormous taxes levied on citizens through arbitrarily set low speed limits. Currently, Oregon school speed limits are set at 20 mph 24 hours a day unless otherwise marked. Oregon is also one of two states where you can get a ticket for running a yellow light.
These are just hidden taxes. _________________ I was going to become an anarchist, but they had too many rules. |

What? Speeding tickets? Funny you should bring this up. The Drudge
Report posted this yesterday.

Never underestimate the length to which government will go to legislate removing money from your pocket and into theirs. |

Me#1,
I know you're probably not the first to say that and certainly won't be the last...and it's not just taxes...creativity in scamming America appears to be their strong suit, with other agencies to 'back them up' icing on the cake. In an article, quietly published in the December,2004 issue of the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Professor Ziobowsky, et al,
Quote: | in "Abnormal Returns from the Common Stock Investments of the U.S. Senate"...suggests that U.S. senators possess stock-picking skills that even the most seasoned money manager would envy. During the boom years of the 1990s, senators' stock picks beat the market by 12 percentage points a year on average, according to the study. Corporate insiders, meanwhile, beat the market by about six percentage points a year, while U.S. households underperformed the market by 1.4 percentage points a year on average, according to separate studies. |
Even the SEC (who are funded by those rascals) won't investigate them. Perhaps someone at the FEC will take on the burden of helping our 'Senators' become honest members of society again, soon hopefully!
Since the article is a 'pay site' info about it can be found googling it and here:

and business license TAX - we have that here in AZ;
state and most cities (I can't vouch for all of the cities - but most have it).
and motel / hotels here have some kind of 'parking' tax..... _________________ Stevie
