Boy that is some great news SBD. We sure have been praying for you.
If they offer follow up radiation treatments, please do it. Even one little cell can cause it to come back with a vengence.
I just finished 36 radiation treatments on my neck and it was not all that bad.
Keep the faith brother.

SBD, my prayers are also with you.

One of my closest friends was treated for Kidney Cancer at the Cleveland Clinic and just raves about the whole experience. He was treated 6 or 7 years ago and remains disease free.

When someone is diagnosed with cancer they should always do what you did, that is, seek out at least one additional opinion at a hospital that is highly rated for treatment of that particular disease.

Thanks again for all of your good thoughts and prayers. I met with my doctor and we went over the pathology report. For starters, the tumor was cancerous which in this case it is called a renal cell carcinoma. Apparently, the tumor was in the center of my kidney and extended to the renal wall. When the tumor was removed, the doctor scraped away as much of the tissue surrounding the tumor that he could, but due to the proximity to the renal wall, they could not scrape to the point where there would be no positive margin for cancel cell presence. What this means is that the pathology report says there are positive margins in my kidney that could still contain the renal cell carcinoma.

The good news is that the cancer was totally contained within the kidney and did not spread. Due to the positive margins, my follow up consists of monitoring the kidney for signs of regrowth. I will have a CT scan in 3 months and every 6 months after that to monitor. The worst case scenario is that one of the upcoming scans detects the regrowth of the cancer cells and I will have to have surgery to remove my entire kidney. Even if that is the case, I will be cancer free at that point. The upside, I could be cancer free now and will be able to keep my kidney. Both scenarios end in me being cancer free, so I am not worried one bit.
