Deliberate Misconduct
A panel that investigated academic misconduct allegations against University of Colorado professor Ward Churchill found serious and recurring problems with his written work, including plagiarism, fabrication and questionable citations. The scathing report, which became public Tuesday, substantiated all seven claims of academic misconduct leveled against Churchill. |
Since the above article appears above the fold in the official paper of the "Peoples Republic of Boulder", this guy is in serious trouble.

EXCELLENT news! Thanks for the post!
Quote: | The next step is for CU's Standing Committee on Research Misconduct, which was given the panel's report last week, to recommend a course of action to interim Chancellor Phil DiStefano, interim Provost Susan Avery and Arts and Sciences Dean Todd Gleeson.
If it is recommended that Churchill be fired, the Board of Regents would have to approve the dismissal, said CU spokesman Barrie Hartman.

The wheels of justice turn slowly both in our legal system and in academia, but Churchill has received a telling blow.
...and here's a few links to CU's media offerings...

My projection is that the Board of Regents will not fire Churchill, because:
(a) they are afraid of the legal costs ... the ACLU would jump at the chance to acquire this "free speech" case.
(b) CU already has enough problems defending the "quality" of some of its tenured people. Actually firing somebody is a tacit admission of guilt.
I think they will accept the recommendations of the panel, and suspend him without pay for 2-5 years (2 of the panel recommended 2 years, 2 recommended 5). Split the difference and say 3 years.
This, to me, is the best thing that could happen. Churchill can still run around doing what he does but he'll have to do it for free. In the meantime, him getting another job with another university is not likely ... what university would hire anybody currently suspended for plagarism and outright fabrication?
If he were actually fired, several academic institutions I can think of might jump at the chance to bring him on board, citing unfairness, or whatever. That would make the problem move, but would not solve anything ... it would just hide the problem.
Maybe (just maybe) one or more professors at CU and elsewhere will take a look at this and at least shut up. The message sent is that personal and professional responsibilites still matter. |

You're probably right on all points except one:
Quote: | Churchill can still run around doing what he does but he'll have to do it for free. |
No, he'll be offered speaking fees from the moonbat-leaning academians and other centers of Kook-dom. He's already reaping those rewards. He'll be not much different from Cindy Sheehan, who is being supported by someone.
So, no, he won't have to do it "for free," unfortunately. |

good point, but he won't be doing it "on our dimes" (taxpayer funded salary) |

But his lawyer will. Just saw him on O'Reilly. We get to pay him exhorbitant sums to defend Churchill.
He said Churchill is busy writing a book right now. On our dime as he is still getting paid by the Univ.
This is sick stuff.
