Yep we've been compromised again...Unfortunately, now all 26.5 million of us find our SS #s, and other personal identity subject to the whims of the Perps according to CNN. Keep tabs on this at
http://www.firstgov.gov
see link upper right corner "Latest Info on Veterans data security"
or go direct to http://www.firstgov.gov/Citizen/Audiences/Military_Veterans.shtml#vgn-veterans-vgn
and click the same link if the first one doesn't work for you, it did not work for me. (probably a million or so of us clicking at once doesn't help).
If the server gets bogged down, I'll copy the info here soon...
Oh, and I need to add there is a phone number as well:
1-800-FED-INFO
for those of us who are 'internet' challenged....so feel free to pass that on as well.

Why is ANY Federal employee (or contractor) allowed to keep data like this on a laptop or any other portable device? This data needs to be on a mainframe with triple encryption and an access control list. If this person needed access, then grant it to him over a SECURE network connection that isn't available to the world.
This jerk deserves to be fired for stupidity. Or at least given a position that he can't screw up on.
The VA says that the employee who took the information home was in violation of the agency's policy and is now on administrative leave. What is administrative leave? Is that another word for 'vacation'? _________________ Swift Boats - Qui Nhon (12/69-4/70), Cat Lo (4/70-5/70), Vung Tau (5/70-12/71) |

I just heard on the radio that our old nemesis, sKerry himself, has stated that someone needs fired over this and is introducing some sort of legislation to that effect. |

sKerry is ONLY in it for the publicity and because there is nothing for HIM to lose by taking this stance. If it involved a choice between Americans and Commies guess which side he'd pick. _________________ Swift Boats - Qui Nhon (12/69-4/70), Cat Lo (4/70-5/70), Vung Tau (5/70-12/71) |

What are the chances of sKerry's records being in there? With his SSN couldn't we submit a SF180? _________________ A Grunt

Well, all that WE have to worry about is identity theft. The Senator
(he served in Viet Nam you know) has to worry about identity

I'm confused.
First, my records were supposedly destroyed in a fire in St Louis in the 70's. Then, they were allegedly stolen by a burgular in Washington, DC.
I checked my credit report and discovered that my wife had ruined that years ago.
Meanwhile, sKerry has been married twice; first to a multi-millionaire and then to a billionaire. Meanwhile, nobody can find his records.
Where's the justice?

I'm right there with you in the 1975 fire on the 6th Floor of the NPRC in St. Louis....and now I'm with you in that Laptop (and now it's reported...in addition to an external hard drive)....
Keep up with the http://firstgov.gov
website, they're updating it regularly now.
And there is a $50,000 reward for the return of the equipment!
Oh, and the employee is cooperating fully (I'm sure ... gotta be surrounded by really nice guys in uniforms!)

I agree completly with all of the comments so far. As they say in an Article 31 proceeding, let me offer something in matters of mitigation and extenuation: I suspect that the individual is a hardworking chap that took some work home...I've been there...I've done that...I got lucky because my house wasn't broke into when I did something stupid. Yes, he should pay a price...I (and MANY others) got lucky. And, by the way, MY records are in the timeframe. But it WOULD be SWEET if skerry's files are there Steve _________________ Kerry...Hanoi Jane...Murtha: same-same
