Quote:
Condoleezza Rice at Boston College? I quit
By Steve Almond | May 12, 2006

An open letter to William P. Leahy, SJ, president of Boston College.

I am writing to resign my post as an adjunct professor of English at Boston College.

I am doing so -- after five years at BC, and with tremendous regret -- as a direct result of your decision to invite Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to be the commencement speaker at this year's graduation.

Many members of the faculty and student body already have voiced their objection to the invitation, arguing that Rice's actions as secretary of state are inconsistent with the broader humanistic values
(ed. cough cough) of the university and the Catholic and Jesuit traditions from which those values derive.

But I am not writing this letter simply because of an objection to the war against Iraq. My concern is more fundamental. Simply put, Rice is a liar.

<snip>

This is the woman to whom you will be bestowing an honorary degree, along with the privilege of addressing the graduating class of 2006.

It is this last notion I find most reprehensible: that Boston College would entrust to Rice the role of moral exemplar.

The Globe - con't

Quite an assertion from an assumed proponent of leftist moral relativism. I'd say the grass grows greener on the B.C. "Dustbowl" .

Now, if only a few thousand more "humanists" would follow his lead, we'd have a start on cleaning out the cess pool of socialism that has invaded our colleges and universities. I suppose this "professor" would cheer, though, if the University were to invite Ward Churchill to speak.

Good riddance!

My,my, what a priggish rant!! Obviously drunk on the koolaid of the left.

Condi Rice has more morality in her little finger than this guy has in his whole stinking leftist body!! Boston College is well-rid of the vermin.

I was curious so I googled to find out more about him.
Professor of Creative Writing.

What a pillar of morality! An interview with this preening nutjob:
Steve Almond's short story collection "My Life in Heavy Metal" has provoked strong reactions in reviewers.

I probably should have included his parting shot...

Quote:
I would like to apologize to my students and prospective students. I would also urge them to investigate the words and actions of Rice, and to exercise their own First Amendment rights at her speech.

...and from "The Heights", B.C.'s student newspaper...

Quote:
What action, if any, will be taken - other than the letters and petitions that have been signed - is unclear.

But all students and faculty have expressed a desire to have the commencement be a joyous celebration.

"I feel bad for the parents and kids who think graduation is going to be a day of disruption rather than one of congratulations," said Rev. Don McMillan, S.J.

Good title for this thread.
Maybe we can get Condi to go speak at all the universities and get a bunch more of these left wing, communist, nutso idealogs to bail.
But at least like the title says, 'One down'

I forced myself to read shawa's link. Take a look and judge whether this moonbat is qualified to be a faculty member of a college whose moral foundations he so proudly embraces. Quoting from his letter of resignation (emphasis mine):

Quote:
Rice's actions as secretary of state are inconsistent with the broader humanistic values of the university and the Catholic and Jesuit traditions from which those values derive.

The "humanistic" values expressed by the guy in his linked interview certainly are not derived from Catholic and Jesuit traditions.

Wonder where he'll land next.

I hate to be cynical (I consider that a blessing of age, BTW), but he would seem to be very well qualified to meet the hiring criteria of any number of the faculties of our fine colleges and universities. I.e., he has a bright future, he's "cool" (his words - yes, I read the review, too).

There's plenty of left wing tax-supported uni's out there that would invite a 'hero' to the faculty.

An update on Sec. Rice's reception at the Boston College commencement...barely a whimper of leftist sentiment... (emphasis mine)

Quote:
Demonstrations, applause greet Rice at Boston College speech
By Brandie M. Jefferson
Associated Press Writer
May 22, 2006

BOSTON --A few students turned their backs but more stood to applaud as Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice received an honorary degree and addressed graduates at Boston College on Monday.

After weeks of turmoil and anti-war protests over Rice's invitation to address the Catholic school, Rice told graduates that their education comes with responsibilities.

She drew scattered applause when she discussed what she called a "commitment to reason," or an obligation to test and challenge their own views.

"There is nothing wrong with holding an opinion and holding it passionately," Rice said, "but at those times when you are absolutely sure you're right, go find someone who disagrees."

About 50 students stood with their backs toward the stage as Rice was introduced to give her commencement speech, but they were quickly drowned out by a standing ovation.

<snip>

Opposition to Rice was ignited after the school announced May 1 that she'd be speaker and receiving an honorary degree.

A letter written by two theology professors claimed Rice's approach to international affairs was "in fundamental conflict" with the school's commitment to values of the Catholic and Jesuit traditions. It was signed by more than 10 percent of the faculty.
(ed.10%?!! This ain't your daddy's Vietnam) One adjunct professor resigned in protest.

Despite the opposition, there have been expressions of support for Rice, a former provost at Stanford University.

Political science professor Marc Landy has said the opposition letter was a "grotesque mistake" and sent his own letter asking colleagues not to sign it.
(ed. Perhaps there's cause for hope after all...these views used to be kept in the academic closet)

You mean, an idiot.

Also, an adjunct is basically a temp. They probably did not call the guy to teach many (any) classes in recent years.
