I apologize for this question.

I had just used the picture at the front of the website against the claim that none of the veterans served with Kerry.

This question came up: "If his superiors thought he was so unfit to serve, why didn't the court-martial him or demote him?"

I can think of an answer, but I think it would be better coming from a vet.

Well, we don't really know how many times Kerry may have been formally "counselled" (as it used to be called) because he won't release his service record.

It's entirely possible that he was on report for things like conduct unbecoming an officer, breach of responsibility and failure to follow a direct order - but we don't know, because we have only Kerry's version of his record - highly sanitized and missing a LOT of entries.

From the fitness reports that he has allowed to be posted on his site, a senior officer can look at them and tell you that had Kerry remained in the Navy, he likely would not have been promoted or sent to Destroyer school, effectively ending his career as a line (command) officer. It was easier to get rid of him by foisting him off onto another command and that was a tactic that was commonly used with problematic personnel even when I was on active duty - late 70's - early 80's.

"Make him someone else's problem child." In this case, he went to a staff position, and even there, his performance was less than stellar, if you deconstruct his fitness reports for that position.
