How George Soros has bought control of the once proud Democrat Party lock, stock and nutroots.

The Cult of Soros

Has the Democratic Party become a cult? And is leftwing billionaire George Soros its guru? The chorus of hosannas with which leftwing bloggers now greet Mr. Soros’ silliest utterances – and the faithfulness with which Democratic leaders repeat them -- suggests that the answer to both questions is yes.

Take the current Democratic mantra that, if there are terrorists in the world, George Bush has created them. This is a familiar Soros-ism. As he has done many times before, Soros decried Bush’s characterization of the current global conflict as a “war on terror” in a Wall Street Journal op-ed titled “A Self-Defeating War” (8/15). According to Soros “a misleading figure of speech applied literally has unleashed a real war fought on several fronts -- Iraq, Gaza, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Somalia -- a war that has killed thousands of innocent civilians and enraged millions around the world….we can escape it only if we Americans repudiate the war on terror as a false metaphor.”

In normal times and coming from an ordinary mortal, these would be regarded as the comments of a crackpot. After all, the Islamic jihad was on the march – and killing Americans -- for twenty years before George Bush employed the metaphor. Back in 1979, the streets of Teheran were already filled with a million frenzied Muslims chanting “Death to America,” and the 9/11 attacks were themselves hardly in response to anything that the American president had said.

But because this judgment is the considered wisdom of a megalomaniac billionaire whose network controls the purse strings of the Democratic Party, this is now the foreign policy of the liberal opposition. When George Soros speaks, the left listens.

In a review of Soros’ new book The Age of Fallibility, blogger Jane Hamsher hails him as a latter-day Socrates. Hamsher is the blogger who created a minor scandal by posting a doctored photograph of Joseph Lieberman in blackface on the Huffington Post website. She writes, “Challenging a ‘false metaphor’ such as the ‘war on terror’ is so threatening to everything the power structure of the Bush administration has been erected upon that to do so will certainly draw down the full force of the right-wing bullies… Mr. Soros has done the heavy lifting and dragged the topic into the national debate…”

Blogger Matt Stoller of MyDD concurs. “[This is] the first time a major figure took on the framework of the war on terror, and called it a false metaphor. I think he’s right… The war on terror just doesn't exist any more than a child's imaginary friend exists.”

Like Hamsher, Matt Stoller was a leading player in the anti-Lieberman blogswarm. A long-time Democrat operative, Stoller formerly ran the Corzine Connection blog for Jon Corzine’s gubernatorial campaign in New Jersey. Today Stoller co-directs BlogPAC, a political action committee for leftist bloggers founded by Markos Moulitsas Zuñiga of Daily Kos.

Their connection to the anti-Lieberman campaign is, as the Marxists like to say, no accident. The Lieberman ouster – and Soros’s role in it – signify the emergence of a new phenomenon in America’s political life: the Shadow Party.

During the 2004 election cycle, Soros put together a network of organizations through which he gained effective control of the Democratic Party’s campaign apparatus – and thus of the Democratic Party itself – in a silent coup whose ramifications are still unfolding.

Soros’s coup was ten years in the making. Since 1994, he had worked with a network of leftwing foundations to fund a $140-million-dollar lobbying drive in favor of “campaign finance reform.” The campaign succeeded in passing the McCain-Feingold Act, which, by outlawing “soft-money” donations, in effect de-funded the Democratic Party. As a result of the Act, the Democratic Party could no longer collect the multi-million-dollar donations from labor unions which were its lifeblood.

Soros stepped in with the Shadow Party to collect the donations instead.

Having driven the Democratic Party to the brink of bankruptcy, Soros then offered to save it. In effect, he privatized the Party, by setting up a network of privately-owned, non-profit groups which would raise the big campaign contributions the Party was now forbidden to raise itself.

In a new book, which describes Soros’s achievement, we call this network the Shadow Party, because it acts as a mirror image or shadow of the real Democratic Party. During the 2004 election cycle, the Shadow Party raised more than $300 million for the Democrat cause – but spent the money itself. This allowed it to shape the politics of the Democratic campaign and control the party’s future.

Joe Lieberman now understands what that means.

Lets just hope that Soros track record follows him to his political investments.

He is not some financial genius, just passed his massive losses unto the bag holders in his Quantum Fund.

He lost hundreds of millions in 1998 betting on the Russian Ruble.

Then Soros switched to technology stocks just before the 2000 crash.
Boom! the Quantum fund goes from 10 billion to 6 billion.
Opps! 4 billion in other peoples money vanishes.

He is currently betting against the dollar and actively pushing up oil futures.

Yeah he's just what the Dems need.

Pete,

As I remember Soros had already lost $2 Billion in his bet against the dollar (prolly took Buffett with him)...so he's gonna have to go a long way to 'win' it back! The Soros minions have been betting against America for a long time, and losing at every turn. He, Kerry, Murtha & Fonda will all be able to party in Hell, 'cause that's the only 'america' he'll win his Dark Bets in....some parts of Congress nothwithstanding....along with the rest of the pathologically criminal element in our society! Soros track record reads like Kerry's...that's not about to change. Usually blind hatred is a difficult way to make money!

The wool is being lifted from American's eyes, daily...but 8 years is a long time to be blind ('92-2000). Might even take a whole generation to restore common sense to it's rightful place in society

Great stats on that Kerry supporter!

He is a parasite, a parasite which has become very wealthy sucking other nations dry. A fact not lost on many and most likely the reason for his interest in purchasing a political party.

The guy is not even American so why would he be here bugging us? He is buying influence and figured correctly the soulless Democratic Party was for sale.

Why does he need to buy influence? Without it he goes on trial in other nations for money manipulation and gets extradited and spends his remaining years rotting in jail.

One last thing. Soros is a very pathetic, unhappy and soulless creature. Being involved in arbitrage has sucked anything once good in the man out of him.

He builds nothing. He deals with no one. He is a parasite of opportunity and contributes nothing to the wealth of nations or peoples.

A real loser.

Exactly why would he have changed his name from György Schwartz to George Soros? I can see the logical transition from György to George, but how do you get Soros out of Schwartz? This man has too much money for a liberal being that the liberal agenda is wealth re-distribution.

The limousine liberals are the worst of breed. They use the useful idiots for their personal gain.

Has anyone seen a really good, critical biography of Soros? I don't intend to start another conspiracy theory, but I simply cannot understand how someone who came from a country under Soviet control could have amassed the "seed money" with which to start his much more heralded rise to wealth - and in such a relatively short time. I.e., where/how did he come by his initial investment money? Pardon me if I'm skepical of some kind of "rags to riches" fantasy...

I remembered reading this WSJ article a couple of years back. It gives a little overview of his beginnings.
Quote:
Born in Hungary in 1930, Mr. Soros began life as George Schwartz. His father, Tivadar, was from humble origins; his mother, Erzebet, from money. Both were Jews, but nonobservant (she eventually converted to Catholicism). Once married, Tivadar had to work just two hours a day managing some of his wife's family property, which provided a handsome living for them and their two sons, Paul and George. At some point during the boys' childhood, the parents decided to change the family name and chose the Hungarian-sounding but in fact obscure Soros. It means "soar" (in the future tense) in Esperanto, the made-up trans-European language promoted by those who dreamed of a world free of nationality. Tivadar was among its leading proponents.

The arrival of World War II had, at first, little effect on the privileged Soros family. The athletic Paul would later recall his main privation as the unavailability of Dunlop tennis balls; he had to make do with a brand of lesser quality. Although Tivadar procured American visas for his wife and sons, saying he himself would remain in Budapest, Erzebet refused to go.

But 1944 brought an ominous change. The Nazis, fearing for the loyalty of their ally, Adm. Miklos Horthy, the military dictator of Hungary, occupied the country and forced Horthy to replace his government with one more devoted to Hitler's goals. Adolf Eichmann soon arrived to oversee the liquidation of Hungary's Jews, a project over which Horthy had temporized. Now Tivadar secured false identity papers for each member of his family and dispersed them to various dwellings away from the family's own homes. In this manner, identified as Christians, all four survived the Holocaust.

Soon after the war it became apparent to Tivadar that Hungary's Soviet "liberators" were not going to withdraw but would instead impose a Communist regime. By 1947 he arranged for George, then 17, to leave for London, where some cousins were prepared to provide shelter. Nazi and Communist expropriations having taken their toll on the family's holdings, there was insufficient income to support George while abroad; studying at the London School of Economics, he sustained himself by working at odd jobs.

After finishing his degree, Mr. Soros found work at the London Stock Exchange. One thing led to another; in 1956, quite by coincidence, he was hired for a position on Wall Street. In America, he began to invest the money of friends and acquaintances as well as his own modest bankroll, and was soon turning a handsome profit. He set himself a five-year goal of building his fortune to a half-million dollars, a sum on which he imagined he might retire and devote himself to intellectual pursuits (which he always regarded as his true calling). As his returns exceeded his goals, he set his financial sights higher, evidently spurred less by greed than by pride in his flowering talent as a speculator and his love of the game.

Having already lived in two other countries, Mr. Soros had an eye for international trading. He pioneered maneuvers that exploited small variations from one country to another in the value of a given share or financial instrument. He had a sharp instinct for currency trading, and his specialty was the fast deal. As The New Yorker put it in a recent profile, he was "adept at finding tax loopholes and operating in gray areas where oversight is scant and maneuverability wide."

As late as the early 1980s, Mr. Soros was telling interviewers that he did not believe in philanthropy. He had already created the Open Society Fund, the first of what would become a constellation of foundations through which he was to channel his generosity. But the original motive, he explained, was not primarily benevolent. The fund was set up as what the law calls a charitable lead trust, which Mr. Soros described as "a very interesting tax gimmick" allowing him to pass large sums to his heirs untaxed.........

Thx, Shawa. If true, that article indicates that he had been in the "free world" a lot longer than I had thought, and at least provides an explanation of his rise to wealth.

I nevertheless have some doubts. I wonder, for example, if that biography has ever been verified by anyone. I mean, with the reported background he claims, his political leanings and goals just don't seem to fit the profile - do they? Ah well, it's deeper than I can ever hope to dwell...

The above biography of George Soros, if indeed that is his name, interested me considerably. For the last 20 odd years I have been interested in his background in that he is a person who never seems to run out of successes or suffer a setback.
During that time I came across several different versions of his life some of which involved various level of crime and some of which indicated his main thing in life was being benevolent.
In sum, I have concluded only three positions about him.
1. He is a very powerful money man and does not hesitate to use power.
2. He is an "operator", in the street sense of the word.
3. All of his operations lean toward the sole benefit of George Soros.
