Well, I'll have it anyhow. If I see that it's just plain hokey in the
first hour, I'll probably wander off and watch violent Japanese anime
instead, however that said, the DVD recorder will keep running and
I'll have the whole 6 hours on my hard drive that can pop out a DVD
every hour and a half. Anyhow, it doesn't hurt to grab it simply
because I can. Might be useful later.

Did you see the Drudge headlines this morning where they said
"The Clinton Administration..." as if they were still in power?

Heard on our local ABC news that they may edit the Berger and Albright scenes. They did show part of both scenes before saying they may be edited. Said conservative Reps are angry if show is edited and Dems are angry if it is not. The pressure is still on by Clinton and friends.

It is interesting to note that ABC up until now still stands by the film, but added that they have not completed 'editing' it as of yet.

We will see if they show the unbiased truth or cave into the appeasement crowd. Rolling Eyes

The HEAT that this presentation is generating from the left approaches thermonuclear, and is apparently being brought to bear on our education establishment in no uncertain terms. I'd like to get a look at the "original guide" whose "materials (did) not meet our high standards for dealing with controversial issues."

Quote:
Scholastic squashes 'The Path to 9/11' guide
The children's publishing company says will create a discussion guide focusing on media literacy, critical thinking and historical background.
September 7 2006: 5:47 PM EDT

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Children's publishing company Scholastic said that it is removing materials from its Web site originally created for use in conjunction with ABC's "The Path to 9/11" amid growing controversy over the docudrama.

The company said it will create a new classroom discussion guide for high school students that focuses more specifically on media literacy, critical thinking, and historical background.

Scholastic is removing materials from its site that were created for classroom use in conjunction with ABC's docudrama, "The Path to 9/11."

"After a thorough review of the original guide that we offered online to about 25,000 high school teachers, we determined that the materials did not meet our high standards for dealing with controversial issues," Dick Robinson, Chairman, President and CEO of Scholastic said in a statement.

"At the same time, we believe that developing critical thinking and media literacy skills is crucial for students in today's society in order to participate fully in our democracy and that a program such as 'The Path to 9/11' provides a very 'teachable moment' for developing these skills at the high school level. We encourage teachers not to shy away from the controversy surrounding the program, but rather to engage their students in meaningful, in-depth discussion."

CBS, Maples and Rather tries to distort false records and it goes on air, ABC wants to show the truth about the 911 report and it is being censored.
Just shows who has the power in the media and what broadcast ms media will bend to the hysteria and abort the truth.

Well, Scholastic got the message.

And ABC/Disney is receiving the full court press from Senate Democrats!!
A not so subtle THREAT to their license if they don't CANCEL the movie!! (merely editing it won't do).

Dear Mr. Iger,

We write with serious concerns about the planned upcoming broadcast of The Path to 9/11 mini-series on September 10 and 11. Countless reports from experts on 9/11 who have viewed the program indicate numerous and serious inaccuracies that will undoubtedly serve to misinform the American people about the tragic events surrounding the terrible attacks of that day. Furthermore, the manner in which this program has been developed, funded, and advertised suggests a partisan bent unbecoming of a major company like Disney and a major and well respected news organization like ABC. We therefore urge you to cancel this broadcast to cease Disney’s plans to use it as a teaching tool in schools across America through Scholastic. Presenting such deeply flawed and factually inaccurate misinformation to the American public and to children would be a gross miscarriage of your corporate and civic responsibility to the law, to your shareholders, and to the nation.

The Communications Act of 1934 provides your network with a free broadcast license predicated on the fundamental understanding of your principle obligation to act as a trustee of the public airwaves in serving the public interest. Nowhere is this public interest obligation more apparent than in the duty of broadcasters to serve the civic needs of a democracy by promoting an open and accurate discussion of political ideas and events.

~SNIP~

Frankly, that ABC and Disney would consider airing a program that could be construed as right-wing political propaganda on such a grave and important event involving the security of our nation is a discredit both to the Disney brand and to the legacy of honesty built at ABC by honorable individuals from David Brinkley to Peter Jennings. Furthermore, that Disney would seek to use Scholastic to promote this misguided programming to American children as a substitute for factual information is a disgrace.

As 9/11 Commission member Jamie Gorelick said, “It is critically important to the safety of our nation that our citizens, and particularly our school children, understand what actually happened and why – so that we can proceed from a common understanding of what went wrong and act with unity to make our country safer.”

Should Disney allow this programming to proceed as planned, the factual record, millions of viewers, countless schoolchildren, and the reputation of Disney as a corporation worthy of the trust of the American people and the United States Congress will be deeply damaged. We urge you, after full consideration of the facts, to uphold your responsibilities as a respected member of American society and as a beneficiary of the free use of the public airwaves to cancel this factually inaccurate and deeply misguided program. We look forward to hearing back from you soon.

Sincerely,

Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid
Assistant Democratic Leader Dick Durbin
Senator Debbie Stabenow
Senator Charles Schumer
Senator Byron Dorgan

They do have their thongs in a knot, don't they? I'm raising my odds of cancellation (or significant delay) from 50/50 to 60/40.

The Statement from ABC:
Quote:
“The Path to 9/11″ is not a documentary of the events leading to 9/11. It is a dramatization, drawn from a variety of sources including the 9/11 Commission Report, other published materials, and personal interviews. As such, for dramatic and narrative purposes, the movie contains fictionalized scenes, composite and representative characters and dialogue, and time compression. No one has seen the final version of the film, because the editing process is not yet complete, so criticisms of film specifics are premature and irresponsible. The attacks of 9/11 were a pivotal moment in our history, and it is fitting that the debate about the events related to the attacks continue. However, we hope viewers will watch the entire broadcast of the finished film before forming an opinion about it.”

Hmmm. Since they have issued this statement, I don't see them cancelling the broadcast.
Note the "criticisms of film specifics are premature and irresponsible"
Sounds like they are fed up with all the complaining.

It looks like the Dems have decided that the United States should be a totalitarian government with full censorship of the press and media, i.e., no more free expression of thought or action.
We can only hope that the MSM sees this for what it is and rebels at its implications.
Just imagine it. The Dems and the MSM on opposing sides of an issue; and in our lifetime.

Excellent letter.
http://blogs.wizbangblog.com/2006/09/07/letter-to-senator-stabenow.php

Debbie Stabenow is my Senator (unfortunately). She is up for re-election and I hope Mike Bouchard, her opponent publicizes her trampling of First Amendment!!

I, for one, never intended watching the film, and have even less intentions now to do so. After all, it's produced by ABC, and it really is less than a documentary (i.e., it was fictionalized from the start).

But I am greatly amused and gratified by the reaction it's getting from the Democratic machine. Remember: these are the people who claim to be defenders of "dissent" and the public's right-to-know (ala NSA leaks), and freedom of speech (even when such information has been proved to be lies). This is the same party that - recall - honored Michael Moore for his fictionalized documentary (as opposed to a docudrama in this case). This is the same party that pulled the same stunt when Stolen Honor was going to be shown. They now cite the example of The Reagans without mentioning the fact that it was shown unedited (allbeit on a different venue than originally scheduled), and that it was a completely different kind of story (having absolutely no value in assessing national priorities). This is the same party that politicized the Katrina coverage, Plamegate, etc., etc., and had no problems with reporting of non-accurate facts as straight news. This is the same party that literally salivated over the promised "revelations" of Rathergate. And I could go on and on and on....

Maybe a few more of the general public will finally wake up to what is going on with the Democrats, particularly the Liberal-Progressive kind, and their minions the MSM. The "trend" is rather obvious, isn't it? And maybe it is this clearly apparent "trend" where the Republicans should make hay, just by cataloging all the examples where Democrats have previously had major problems with "The Truth".

The pressure will keep up until air time. If Clinton and Democrats do not want this to be shown then in my opinion it contains more fact than fiction. The Democrats have a problem with the truth. The only truth they want shown or talked about is what they say is true, even if its a lie and benifits them. When the Democrats or MSM are caught in a lie they bury it, an example is V. Plame leak. Now that we know who leaked her name where does the NY Times write about it? Heard on Fox today that NY Times placed it on page 26. So much for the truth and the publics right to know.
