I'ld like to report great success with a beltway denizen and old friend of mine. Under my tutelege he's gone from spamming me with Demo' partyline to reading Taranto and Coulter. He's gone so far to suggest we meet in Florida to charter a boat to visit Chavez and introduce him to some real 'diablos'.
I answered:
Quote: | Your idea of a boat trip reminds me of a fine old institution, the filibuster. To spare our military the extra burden and to give Washington deniability it might be worth re-examining. Filibuster comes fom the Spanish and means pirate. Today a senator who filibusters has pirated the session. In the 19th Century they really were pirates. Mostly mercenaries, mostly Americans that took advantage of chaos in the banana states to pirate the governments. With a handful of armed men and alot of cash for bribes they'd recreate the governments and laws to suit their sponsors. Teddy Roosevelt used them to seperate Panama from Columbia but typically they were ignored or condemned by the US government. Usually their sponsors were American corporate interests. Standard Oil in Mexico. United Fruit in Nicaragua. Just about every state was penetrated at one time or another. In Venezuela it was Atlantic Ritchfield (ARCO). Abusing the locals wasn't their aim. They re-enforced the indiginous oligarchs who were well adept at abusing the locals themselves. The 20th Century wasn't kind to their legacy. Oil was repatriated/expropriated, the church and commie agit-prop gave all of them a black eye. I'm thinking along the lines of a private club, Old Farts with Guns. It shouldn't be hard to recruit cash and frustrated commie stompers for a group activity in Caracas. We could have our own network reality show. Why should Hezbollah have all the fun? |
He enjoyed it. What say you? _________________ "KILL ALL THE LAWYERS!"
