Gathering of Eagles
Mission Statement

I like this.

-FDL

http://gatheringofeagles.org/?page_id=83

1. Gathering of Eagles is non-partisan. While each member has his or her own political beliefs, our common love and respect for America and her heroes is what brings us together.

2. We are a non-violent, non-confrontational group. We look to defend, not attack. Our focus is guarding our memorials and their grounds.

3. We believe that the war memorials are sacred ground; as such, we will not allow them to be desecrated, used as props for political statements, or treated with anything less than the solemn and heartfelt respect they–and the heroes they honor–deserve.

4. We are wholly and forever committed to our brothers and sisters in uniform. As veterans, we understand their incredible and noble sacrifices, made of their own accord for a nation they love more than life itself. As family members, we stand by them, and as Americans, we thank God for them.

5. We believe in and would give our lives for the precious freedoms found in our Constitution. We believe that our freedom of speech is one of the greatest things our country espouses, and we absolutely hold that any American citizen has the right to express his or her approval or disapproval with any policy, law, or action of our nation and her government in a peaceful manner as afforded by the laws of our land.

6. However, we are adamantly opposed to the use of violence, vandalism, physical or verbal assaults on our veterans, and the destruction or desecration of our memorials. By defending and honoring these sacred places, we defend and honor those whose blood gave all of us the right to speak as freely as our minds think.

7. We vehemently oppose the notion that it is possible to “support the troops but not the war.” We are opposed to those groups who would claim support for the troops yet engage in behavior that is demeaning and abusive to the men and women who wear our nation’s uniform.

8. We believe in freedom at all costs, including our own lives. We served to protect the freedoms Americans enjoy, and we agree with Thomas Jefferson’s assertion that “From time to time, the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of patriots and tyrants.”

9. We will accept nothing less than total, unqualified victory in the current conflict. Surrender is not an option, nor is defeat.

10. We stand to challenge any group that seeks the destruction of our nation, its founding precepts of liberty and freedom, or those who have given of themselves to secure those things for another generation. We will be silent no more.

I have plans to go and have reservations made also. I have never been to DC and will turn it into a short vacation and see some sights while there. If you see an old bearded fat guy limping with a cane just come up and ask me 'Are You Nuts?' I am.
By the way, my family labeled me with that moniker when I became a recovering liberal. When I came out against Kerry they almost disowned me, but since then we have one simple rule - no politics at family gatherings. We had to make it simple so they could understand it!!!!

The good Lord willin', n' the creek don't rise, I will be there, along with my Grandson-in-law, (who is a Marine at Quantico), and maybe a brother-in-law (another Vietnam era Navy vet like myself). If I see you, I will be sure to say hello.

This was posted on the Comments Section of The Gathering Of Eagles Web Site. This man is so eloquent I had to post his comments.

Dear America,

I have seen Vietnam Veterans and their family’s gather at Rolling Thunder by the Hundreds of thousands, At Melbourn, Florida for the kickoff of the year’s Vietnam Veteran reunions.

At a thousand small towns in between both coasts for a day of festivities and unabashed patriotism … At Kokomo Indiana for the last big all Vets reunion of the year.

I have ridden coast to coast and found literally thousands of Vet groups all working independently of each other, but all working towards a common goal; the betterment of the Veteran’s lot and the betterment of The USA.

There were almost 500,000 bikes at last years Rolling Thunder, and easily a over a hundred thousand vets at many other, seperate reunions.

This GATHERING OF EAGLES transcends all those reunions in importance; as we are not only going to protect the Memorials and to Honor our dead as we gather; but to boost the Morale of our troops engaged in battle with an enemy who has attacked our shores, who has been attacking us since any of us can remember by blowing up our embassies, knocking our planes from the skies, killing our Marines in their sleep, murdering our sailors at chow while their ship sat at anchor.

We are at a point in our history where the danger to our democracy has NEVER been greater or more visable.

Our troops hear the protesters because the left leaning Mass Media WANTS them to hear only that side of America.

And they do hear it.

And they are aware of this coming “GATHERING OF EAGLES” Very aware.

They, our Marines, Army, Air Force and Navy engaging the enemy in both Afghanistan and Iraq will be watching to see … “How many?”
How many Americans support them? They will be watching … and they must not be dissappointed.

This is one of the most important gatherings in America’s history. Every bit as important as how many of those Revolutionary War Soldiers braved the Winter to win this country its Freedom.

Every bit as important as those millions of citizens who rationed everything they had; lived without butter, tires, worked 12 hour shifts, gave up their pots and pans so America might have a better chance to win WWII.

This sacrifice of ours is only of time. We will not be huddled freezing around tiny camp fires with rags for shoes, no one has to go without so our troops might have the equipment they need to carry the battle.

We need you! Every one of you!

We need you to spread the word, and to come to Washington DC. To be there at the Wall on March 17th; not only to make certain the hard core anarchist among the protesters do not deface any memorial, but to send a message to our troops in harms way.

A message they will be listening and watching for.

It is up to each of us to look inside ourselves and ask …”Is this worth it?”

The only possible answer you can arrive at is that is is not only very much worth it; it is IMPERATIVE that you go.

The sound of a hundred thousand flags being held aloft in dignity and HONOR will be deafening in its wonderful silence … a silence heard all around this world.

This Gathering of Eagles will come to be known as the “Woodstock” of Patriotism.

Those of you on the fence as if you can go or not, I say to you now; Please, you must go!

There will most likely never be a more important event in our lifetime.

We need you to stand together with us on the 17th of March or the Jane Fonda’s, the CODE PINKS and Stalinist Worker’s Party of this country will claim victory.

And our troops today will feel that day what we felt in the Jungles of Vietnam, even as we fought the biggest battle of the Cold War.
