I hope those of you in states where Democrats are in congress, will call your DC elected official and tell them to STOP putting our troops at risk by putting pork and a timeline in the appropriations bill to fund the troops. |

I have read where Sen Lieberman of Conn, said that he would change parties if there was an attempt to withdraw the troops.
I am not sure if this vote will be the one that triggers his change in party membership. |

All my Reps are Democrat and to date, contacting them just elicites form replies about why they are against everything except Socialism.
I email Patty Murray, Maria Cantwell and Brian baird on a regular basis. Cantwell doesn't even have the courtesy to have ever replied, not once!
The other two, just shine me on, but I'm not giving up. _________________ Clark County Conservative |

I called Congressman Adam Schiff(D) Cal. yesterday after the vote and lodged my complaint. It seemed to "fall on deaf ears"! They have the taste of blood now. Not good. _________________ Gary Armitstead

Great, glad those that replied are letting them know you are watching and don't like what you see. Every call or letter represents thousands in the way congress views them. Believe me, they are listening and it does make a difference. |

What's going on now went on before Christ, as noted by Cicero:
“A nation can survive its fools and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and he carries his banners openly against the city. But the traitor moves among those within the gates freely, his sly whispers rustling through all alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears no traitor; he speaks in the accents familiar to his victim, and he wears their face and their garments and he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation; he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of a city; he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to be feared. The traitor is the plague.”
- Marcus Tullius Cicero, Roman Orator - 106-43 B.C.

Called Sen. Diane Feinstein's(D) CA office this afternoon and they actually listened to what I had to say. They also said they had received many similar comments to mine regarding the pork and politics in this senate bill. Maybe the Dems ARE receiving some heat from middle America. _________________ Gary Armitstead

well I also live in a blue state and have tried unsucessfully to meet with both Senator Durbin and Senator Obama (I sent my 5th request in last week). Senator Obama's office called and gave me their veteran liason, who by the way is NOT a veteran, BUT they do have ONE on staff and would I like to speak with him. I informed the Ms that I am a registered voter in Illinois and as such Senator Obama was elected not the ONE veteran they have on staff. My request was put in once again....
Senator Durbin's office has not contacted me on any of my requests. I contacted both of them when the so called non-binding resoulution started. It seems my Senators care very little about veterans, nor plain average voters like myself who can not give them thousands of dollars to support their campaign or causes.
But once a week I will write and fax my request in and will continue to do so. I even took the time to write most of the Senators in ALL 50 states demanding that they support the troops, fund the war and win this war. Defeat should NOT be an option! It was not suprising to see very few actually read what I wrote, but just sent a standard letter out informing of their position - or I should say lack of position. _________________ Born to raise a little hell! |

Theresa,
Allow me this 'stream of conciousness':
I mis-spent my youth in the Land of Lincoln. Placed door hangers for Nixon in '60. We had Otto who went to jail. There was Paul 'ShoeBox" Powell. We had Adlai replaced by a North Shore weenie. My congressman in DuPage County was Hoffman. The titans were Everette McKinley Dirksen and Richard J Daley. I took time out from work to battle the Cook County irregulars at the '68 Convention over those silly 1st Amendment things.
Always it was presentented that Dirksen was noble and Daley was venal. Time and knowledge brought a different view. No legislation passed the Springfield House that did not pass a pay off to the law firm of so&so,so&so and Dirksen. He was a master of grand eloquence pursuing the cause of the marigold and died wealthy. Daley on the other hand was a master of retail politics and maintaining mastery of a city of 3 million. It could be ugly but he died a public servant of modest wealth.
Daley (and Momo Giancana) counted the graveyards for JFK in '60. Daley supported, publicly LBJ in '68 but was personally against the whole thing. Richard J was a tradition going back to Aaron Burr and Martin Van Buren. When the McGovernites unseated him at the '72 Convention they broke all semblance to the Democrat tradition and opened the nonsense that's followed.
However dis-informed there was always Downstate and Chicago with a balance to be found between. It would seem the Chi Town miasma has obliterated any sense. Mosley Brown comes to mind.

When Alfonse Demato was my senator I wrote to him three times for help and to ask him to ote for a veterans' issue. Twice, I received personal phone calls and the help my family needed from him and he did vote for the veterans' issue I inquired about.
Hillary Clinton has replaced him. I'd have better luck having my neighbor's dog listen to me than Clinton. Unfortunately, Schumer is my Representative. No different than Hillary. _________________ Swift Boats - Qui Nhon (12/69-4/70), Cat Lo (4/70-5/70), Vung Tau (5/70-12/71) |
