How many presidents do we have anyhow? I thought America had one foreign policy maker.
I also thought it was against some kind of law to go negotiate with a stated enemy of America unless the White House sent you.
So how come the third ranking person in American govt. is going to talk to our enemy against White House wishes? Especially since she is in direct opposition to the President's foreign policy.
When she gets back they ought to arrest her butt.

Treason? I believe that's doubtful, but it depends on what is discussed and what action Pelosi takes to aid our enemies.
But her visit could very easily be in violation of the Logan Act, just as Kerry's visits to Paris were in the 70s.
Kerry then actively worked on behalf of our enemies to aid their cause, making him the traitor he is. _________________ "If he believes his 1971 indictment of his country and his fellow veterans was true, then he couldn't possibly be proud of his Vietnam service." |

Pelosi is playing the same game as Kerry did. I too wish they would just keep her. Can you imagine how our troops feel hearing and reading about her trip and Harry Reid talking about introducing legislation to cut off all funding for our military? |

I can't stomach Nancy Pelosi, so it pains me to say this, but let's be fair.
It's a veil she was wearing and she was wearing it because she is visiting a Christian holy site - the tomb of St. John the Baptist.
According to teachings handed on to us through the Apostles from our Judaic roots, Christian women must be veiled in some situations, such as in church.
I think you may be correct that her liberal friends wouldn't appreciate that picture much, though - and precisely because it demonstrates even the slightest respect for religious sensibilities. _________________ ~ Echo Juliet ~

With Pelosi's gaffe concerning a message to Syria from Olmert of Israel......did she blow her chance at Secretary of State in a Democratic Administration? What a fool that woman is and she makes this great country look foolish! This has been a banner week for our enemies in the greater middle east thanks to Nancy Pelosi and the British with their impotent stance with Iran. _________________ Gary Armitstead

I'm really convinced that Pelosi's bulb is dim. How could she possibly make such a dumb mistake?
And she's third in the Presidential succession. _________________ "If he believes his 1971 indictment of his country and his fellow veterans was true, then he couldn't possibly be proud of his Vietnam service." |

Conducting Foreign Relations Without Authority: The Logan Act
Summary
The Logan Act, codified at 18 U.S.C. § 953, states:
Any citizen of the United States, wherever he may be, who, without
authority of the United States, directly or indirectly commences or carries on any correspondence or intercourse with any foreign government or any officer or agent thereof, in relation to any disputes or controversies with the United States, or to defeat the measures of the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both.
This section shall not abridge the right of a citizen to apply, himself or his
agent, to any foreign government or the agents thereof for redress of any injury which he may have sustained from such government or any of its agents or subjects.
The Logan Act was intended to prohibit United States citizens without authority from interfering in relations between the United States and foreign governments.
There appear to have been no prosecutions under the Act in its more than 200 year history. However, there have been a number of judicial references to the Act, and it is not uncommon for it to be used as a point of challenge concerning dealings with foreign officials. Although attempts have been made to repeal the Act, it remains law and at least a potential sanction to be used against anyone who without authority interferes in the foreign relations of the United States.
Maybe it is time for Bush to have some Guts and use this Act, put her on the witness stand.

The Dems are really feeling their power. Check this link about Rep. Steny Hoyer(D) of Maryland, meeting with the leader of the Muslim Brotherhood. They WILL do anything to bash the President!

I wouldn't place much hope in the Logan Act. SInce it's becoming law in 1799, there hasn't been one prosecution and only one indictment, in 1803. Yes, it is on the books still, in spite of repeated attempts of repeal. Still, it seems to be more of a threat than anything else.
If it were invoked, I imagine it would trigger a fast track case to the Supreme Court, which is still too Liberal to do any good.
If our spineless representatives in D.C. ever grew a backbone, they could follow the examples outlined in Nancy Pelosi Should Resign by Democrat Counsel of the House Judiciary for 17 years, Jerry Zeifman.
Tom Wright was forced into resignation from Congress over similar acts. We need our leaders to act likewise today and turn up the heat.
