And finally, someone understands swift boating. _________________ Swift Boats - Qui Nhon (12/69-4/70), Cat Lo (4/70-5/70), Vung Tau (5/70-12/71) |

Now that's about as good a definition as I've read yet...but not quite perfection.
It's unclear whether the "they" of "theirs" are refering to the Swiftees themselves as in John Kerry being one of their own, or whether it refers to Kerry's socialist/marxist brethren...but I can live with the ambiguity
While we're on the subject (as we often are), I read a Salon piece recently that reflects the difficulty the leftists are encountering within their own ranks in locking down the word as a pejorative. It's quite funny. I'll post it up soon as I find it. |

Just got back from a long trip. While away, I caught a bit of H&C and the execrable Alan Colmes was doing a teaser for a subsequent segment. He said (paraphrased, but close), "Well, the Swifties are at it again, swiftboating John Edwards ..."
Unfortunately, I was unable to stick around for the segment. Sounds awfully close to slander to me. Anyone hear what was he was talking about?

I missed that comment from Colmes
I am getting tired of people using 'swiftboating' for just slinging mud ... it's telling the TRUTH about someone else.
I did catch Alan's show of not knowing what he was talking about again... showing he doesn't know much about Kerry / swifties and what was said / why etc.
he wanted to know why Lonsdale said one thing about Kerry back in '94 vs what he said in the Swiftboat ads - I plan to email him on that one - won't be telling him the why - just letting him know he is showing his ignorance of the subject. _________________ Stevie

I'm afraid we're going to have to get used to the misuse of 'swiftboating' as the opposite of what it means. My objection to Colmes in this case was his invocation of the name Swifties. There's no ambiguity about that term. It means something specific and he has no right to invoke it in the sense of accusing this organization of currently influencing the election of John Edwards or anybody else. _________________ Capt, 8th U.S. Army, Korea '53 - '54 |

In my opinion the phrase swiftboated works only because Americans know that anyone can get 240 Liberial Socialists to lie about anything. Thus Americans say that it is possible that they may be lying they just don't know. The way to resolve the issue and get them to realize the truth pointing out the truth is to say not Swiftboated but Swiftboated and POWED when they try to use the term. After all it was not only the Swiftboat Veterans but according to history the POWs for Truth joinded them. |
