From "The Raw Story"...
Quote: | Kerry: No Dem will ever be swift-boated again
David Edwards and Katie Baker
January 13, 2008
Senator John Kerry told George Stephanopoulos on ABC's "This Week" that no Democratic President will ever allow themselves to be attacked in the way that the "Swift-boat veterans" group attacked him in 2004.
"Unfortunately, when lies are put out on television sufficiently and unanswered sufficiently, they can make a difference. That will never, ever happen again," he said.
<snip>
Kerry cited financial problems as a main reason why swiftboating was such a problem for him in the 2004 elections.

"Financial problems" indeed...the Swiftvets were right on the money. |

"Financial problems?" How many excuses does that make now?
If they were wrong, all he ever needed to do was make his full, complete and uncensored Military Records open to the public. Bloggers would have been all over the Swifties in a New York Minute if his records proved them wrong.
Kerry only has Kerry to blame, no one else. _________________ Clark County Conservative |

If I remember correctly he didn't spend all the money that was available in his campaign funds. The number was big also.

That's sort of true. Since the Swifties only came after Kerry because he was a swifty who'd gone traitor, I don't know of any other presidential aspirants who are swifties, thus we won't be coming after them. _________________ Swift Boats - Qui Nhon (12/69-4/70), Cat Lo (4/70-5/70), Vung Tau (5/70-12/71) |

Yes, I recall that also. In fact the Democrats were angry at Kerry because though he did give money to other campaigns he had something like 72 million dollars left over that he could have used to take congress away from the Republicans and he kept the surplus instead. Figure may be wrong but I don't think so. |

Actually I believe it was $15 Mill left over. If I recall correctly, Kerry argued that during the post-demo convention period, federal "matching funds" had not yet kicked in which limited his ability to respond.
It's all hokum designed to mask his inability to effectively respond to the TRUTH of the SVPT allegations. Historians will, ultimately, tell the tale. |

Nixon as well used the same dodge saying he hadn't responded early enough to Watergate. Like it would have done any good.
from Novak's "Prince of Darkness" pg 211, a dinner party at the home of a Boston Globe correspondent in '71:
Meeting Kerry for the first time, I thought him arrogant and pretentious. Toward the end of the evening, Kerry approached me. "Bob", he said, "I'm going to run for Congress next year and I'd be privileged to feel free to call on you for advice now and then." I replied: "John, what makes you think I'm for you?" _________________ "KILL ALL THE LAWYERS!"
