Time Magazine and Michael Kinsley's nasty pen.

Quote:
Swift-boat is shorthand for the brilliant, despicable Republican campaign strategy in 2004 that turned John Kerry's honorable service in Vietnam into a negative factor in his campaign. The phrase has become more broadly the term for a particular category of campaign tactics and has even become a verb. To "swift-boat" somebody is to use these tactics against him or her. If you remember the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth campaign and don't see anything wrong with it--or if you believe it was the work of "independent" operatives unconnected to George W. Bush's campaign--I'm not going to waste precious space on the back page of a national newsmagazine arguing with you.

It was neither dispicable nor Republican. It was effective and the swifties are made up of both Democrats and Republicans, and I think there are a few Libertarians and Independents thrown in to boot. But it was brilliant though.

This says it all:

I.e., I'm the arbitrator of truth, and dissent (remember how this is highly cherished by the liberals!) is not welcome here.

For a generation, the Democrats will be checking under their beds every night looking Swifties.

...and other BDS boogiemen! ....and continuing to provide the 'keystone cops' classic entertainment that is so sorely lacking in 'non-election' years.

That said, since they've painted the bullseye on the Repubs again...the smartest possible presidential campaign would be one (like Reagan's) that simply promises to undo the damage the Dems (in Congress) have wrought on Society for decades! (ie, for dems, if any, that means work to repeal the half-million laws introduced/passed by them in the last 50 years). Unfortunately, the only 'candidate' this time around with that agenda is Bob Barr (L).

Dems painted a bullseye on Repubs long ago and it has stuck. Our weak-kneed spineless RINO's of the last few years have done nothing to counter that, what with many now distancing themselves from Bush and acting more liberal than ever.

Bob Barr, I'm afraid, isn't what our country currently needs.

U.S. Supreme Court Affirms Fundamental Civil Liberties, Says Bob Barr

Barr to Join ACLU

The next president should commit to a speedy and complete withdrawal from Iraq

Unfortunately, I really don't see a good choice this time around.

Yep ...pretty much kills any chance he ever had of getting any conservative votes!
