I received this from a friend who works in downtown Chicago. I have removed identifying info. This was from their Human Resources department:
Quote: | To All Chicago Based Employees:
A recommendation has been made by a local business association to encourage employees to leave the downtown area no later than 4:00pm CST on Tuesday, November 4th in anticipation of the election night event planned in Grant Park. As such, Chicago-based XYZ company employees will have the option of leaving the office early on Tuesday at 4:00pm CST.
Obviously any client commitments are a priority and must be met prior to any employee departure.
Employees who take the CTA or Metra are encouraged to check those web sites ( http://www.transitchicago.com and http://www.metrarail.com ) to determine schedule changes. There may be limited street closures near Grant Park beginning in the afternoon, so people may wish to plan driving routes home accordingly.

Regardless of who wins the election, America will be changed forever after tomorrow's vote. We will be either slowly turning toward Socialism or on a fast track to full blown Marxism, and the reaction of the crowd at Grant Park will be a good indicator of what life in the world of "Hope" and "Change" will be like...ask the folks in Southcentral Los Angeles how they liked "Hope" and "Change" from a radical mob several years ago -- it all comes out of the same "Rules for Radicals" handbook.
For your own safety, I would urge you to be far from downtown Chicago as early in the day as possible, and you might not want to venture out at night anywhere in the city, either. What a sad testimony to the once "shining city on a hill" that it is being turned into a Third World Dung hill. |

I was in Watts, the day after MLK was shot. I'm still here. _________________ No whiners! |

I'm glad you made it through that experience in one piece. Then there was Rodney King and then OJ. Let's hope the "happy celebrants" in Chicago are civil. |

Tews, assuming an Obama win, I suspect this will be quite a celebratory party and (save for inevitable incidents where large numbers of people gather) doesn't warrant your level of concern. Frankly, I think you may be misinterpreting the intent of that communique.
In the apparently remote chance that Obama might lose however, downtown Chicago would not be in my travel plans (other than moving a good distance away from it). |

Riding the CTA through the Loop during the King riots in '68 was surreal. The horizon south and west was flames and APCs rolled on State St. Richard J Daily issued 'shoot to kill' orders. The convention riot was a picnic in comparison. _________________ "KILL ALL THE LAWYERS!"
