By RECRUITING THE TALIBAN to fight Al Queda???

http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/03/07/obama.interview/index.html

Excerpt

Quote:
He said his administration is reviewing the U.S. policy toward Afghanistan and Pakistan, with the intention of finding a new strategy in the region. Obama said that reaching out to Sunni militant groups, such as the Taliban, to fight al Qaeda and other terror groups -- a tactic employed by Gen. David Petraeus in Iraq -- "should be explored."

"If you talk to General Petraeus, I think he would argue that part of the success in Iraq involved reaching out to people that we would consider to be Islamic fundamentalists, but who were willing to work with us because they had been completely alienated by the tactics of al Qaeda in Iraq," Obama said.

Holy...

I mean we knew he was a treacherous snake, but recruiting the people that our soldiers have died - and continue to sacrifice to have put OUT of power - to help us?!?

frakkin turncoat...

Strange that CNN seems to have removed a portion of his words.

From Breibart/AP

Quote:
There may be opportunities to reach out to moderates in the Taliban, but the situation in Afghanistan is more complicated than the challenges the American military faced in Iraq, Obama said.

Even the New York Times noted the outreach is intended for "moderate Taliban."

Seems to me, one of the things that made them Taliban was their extreme lack of "moderatism," unlike the rest of the Afghani population.

If they were moderate then they'd just be called Muslims. I would not be surprised to learn that the term Taliban meant extremist in Muslimese.

So we are buddying up to the Taliban, I wonder if we will be doing that before we buddy up to Cuba, or later? Those guys over in Syria are a fun bunch too, I hear. Rolling Eyes
