"The song is ended but the melody lingers on"
Irving Berlin
...and on...and on...and on...
Via a Google news alert, I was directed to a recent Globe story on proposed ethics/campaign finance reform from the MA state senate (I'll decline comment on that particular oxymoron).
Some 2/3 of the way through the story, the Globe's lingering Swiftvet Derangement Syndrome emerges in full flower...
Quote: | Additionally, it mandates disclosure when groups other than campaigns pay for election ads, such as the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth ads... |
Now, I'll not quibble with the reporter's election to cite the Swiftvets as an example from among the, dare I say, hundreds? of "groups other than campaigns" that have paid for election ads...a large majority of them, in all probability, emanating from the left. It is, after all, a story with negative connotations...and demonstration of political bias within a Globe story is, by and large, yawn-inducing.
However, as the sentence concludes, we are then offered this gratuitous and rather amusing non-sequitur...
Quote: | ...widely viewed as a deceptive attack on US Senator John Kerry. |
This, of course, has NOTHING to do with the purpose of citing an example of "groups other than campaigns" for the purposes of this article, but simply another demonstration of the chronic "SDS" that still resides DNA deep in the leftist psyche. They are incapable, to this day, of even mentioning the name without the requisite "widely discredited" or "deceptive attack".
You put a WORLD . of . HURT on 'em Swiftees...and we remain forever in your debt. |

The Swiftees indeed did hurt the socialist left and yes, it does show in their SDS.
After all, when have we ever read anything like, "Moveon.org's ad, widely viewed as a deceptive attack on US President George W. Bush?"
The guys woke America up, briefly in 2004.
Sadly, America went back to sleep by 2008. _________________ Clark County Conservative |

#1, Thanks for exposing the rabid losers at the Globe once again...almost makes you feel sorry for them, sorta like a washed up prize fighter still reliving that last bout when his opponent bashed his brains in yet he still thinks it was just a lucky punch or a dirty trick, not superior training and skill. As Howie Carr puts it, the Globe continues to circle the drain.
Lew, your metaphor of awakening America and then they quickly went back to sleep immediately brought to mind the 1990 movie "Awakenings", with Robin Williams and Robert De Niro (The victims of an encephalitis epidemic many years ago have been catatonic ever since, but now a new drug offers the prospect of reviving them). What a pity; as in the movie, the "awakenings" were apparently only temporary. |
