Thomas Friedman of the New York Times jumps the shark. Apparently the stress of recent ideological combat has demolished whatever was remnant in the concept of American Liberty...
Quote: | The Firm Hand of the Benign Strongman [Mark Steyn]
The New York Times's Thomas Friedman finally gets to where he's been wanting to go all these years. Everything would be so much better if we could just submit to the benign rule of an enlightened elite:One-party autocracy certainly has its drawbacks. But when it is led by a reasonably enlightened group of people, as China is today, it can also have great advantages. That one party can just impose the politically difficult but critically important policies needed to move a society forward in the 21st century. For some reason, the Times thought enough of my "comparison" of America and dictatorships to stick it on page one. It seems a shame to bury their own Great Thinker's thoughts on the subject on page 29.

What a monumental delusion this guy is living under.
To think that Communist China will be able to eat America's lunch by a govt. controlled effort to develop cheap, clean energy and not understand that ONLY free market competition, with the attendant abhorrent stomach turning profit that goes along with free market competition as it's driving force, is a level of downright 'dumbnass' that is mind boggling.
ONLY the free market can bring about the innovations and ideas that could eventually bring us cheap and clean energy will work. Without that competition, there is no innovation. There will never be energy at a level of quality vs price turned out by a govt. controlled group that could not be done much much better by free market competition.
You don't have to be a genius to understand this, but you can't be a dumbnass. _________________ Left and Wrong are the opposite of Right! |
