A poster in another thread was talking about discussions at the DemoUnderground board, and how certain facts might just be about to come out that would stir their pots. Well, that sounds like a great idea. Why wait?

Someone please go tell them:
- It was their hero-of-Camelot Democrat Jack Kennedy (he of "Bay of Pigs" fame) who got us into Viet Nam, in the first place.
- It was Democrat Lyndon Johnson (the only one to benefit from Kennedy's assassination, BTW) who bumped it up to a full-scale war, in the second place.
- It was the boogey-man of their nightmares Republican Richard Nixon who got us out of Viet Nam, finally.

Those indisputable facts ought to set their teeth on edge.

If that doesn't work, tell them that LTJG John Forbes Kerry came back from Viet Nam claiming that he had committed war crimes, and now he says he's proud of his "service record." Is this the kind of person we want in charge of the US Armed Forces, REALLY??? Either he's delusional, or merely a self-centered, lying cretin, out for political power for power's sake.

I would go do it myself, but the gag reflex is unbearable.

I beleive the first committments to the Republic of South Vietnam were made by Ike.

You told them: John Kerry is a self-proclaimed war criminal who is running for president of the United States.

Doesn't that take the cake!

I stand (correction, I sit) corrected. You are correct, of course. It was before Kennedy that we got involved in Viet Nam. It was under Kennedy that the Green Berets were formed from Special Forces and we began putting troops in Viet Nam. The real fighting (for US) began after Kennedy's assassination, and the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution under LBJ.

BTW, I found a good treatise on Viet Nam at:
http://vietnam.vassar.edu/overview.html
A longer history is at:

I found another interesting write-up by a VVAW "vet" at:

I don't think Ike sent any American troops to Vietnam. Dulles, his Secretary of State was heavily involved in the negoiations to divide Viet.
into two parts: the North and the South. The first troops sent to Viet.
were sent by Kennedy. They were sent as "advisers" to the South,
without guns. Its is alleged that Dulles probably screwed things up
with his "diplomacy" and, later Kennedy's mishandling of the military
by not using more force in the beginning contributed to the final
outcome. Some argue that the division of the American public concerning
the war probably figured largely in not achieving victory in Vietnam.
(sound familiar?) Millions of Vietnamese were murdered after the US
pulled out. Sad

Not only there. The Cambodians were decimated after we walked away from South-East Asia, too. The Viet Nam Socialist-Communist dictatorship had many eggs to fry after we were gone, and knowing that we would never try to stop them, they made a lot of omelets.

We should have fried their bacon in '63.

You are so right, Richard!
After the Kennedy assassination, Johnson made a feeble attempt, but couldn't take the heat. It appears he spent a more time trying to figure out how to get out (having assumed defeat)with face-saving grace.
Appreciate your comment, Richard.

Personally, I only look in to DU to see what they're up to.

I don't try to post there any more. I did attempt to on a few occasions, but after pointing some inconsistencies in the mildest way and being as diplomatic as possible, I was still canned and banned.

We are NOT going to change their minds - they are the committed Kerry KookAde drinkers. They are dedicated to their cause and to their invasions and disruptions and I just let them have at it. What I see on their site is often sickening, but there's no discussing the truth with them, no matter how well I have my ducks in a row.

It's much more effective for me to spend my time here, answering reasonable requests and participating in the discussions and asking questions and whacking trolls.

Most people don't go to DU for information, if they have any sort of internet savvy, at all - it's not a research site. They go there to prop each other up, to agitate and stir anger, to see what the other side's doing or they go there for entertainment.

OTOH, while we have our share of trolls and disruptions, many of our visitors are coming here for more information because of the ad and the book.

Y'all are free to do whatever you think helps the cause the most, of course.

I would never presume to direct you, so please don't get me wrong - everyone has to follow their own drives and interests - I'm just saying that for me, I think I can be of the most use here. (No doubt a few others would disagree with that. Wink )

Ike was trying to help the Frogs - excuse me *French* - pull their chestnuts out of the fire.

Having spent considerable time in Saigon, I can tell you that during the colonial days the French really "raped" Vietnam - took everything out and put NOTHING back.
