This is straight from Kerry.
Its purpose is to set the stage for Kerry's explanations.

Greasepaint,

Interesting, but I kind of doubt it.
Kerry would not want to build up any additional negativity just to set the stage for his "explanations". The questions have been out there (and building) for awhile - That The Boston Globe is bringing them up is significant.

The stage was set on multiple occaisions, up to and including his run for the most important office in the world.

Even lefty papers know they lose (ha! biting lip here) credibility if everyone sees it rain, feels the rain, hears the rain, but the reports say it is sunny.

I have not been able to read the Glob since I came of voting age during the Reagan revolution. It just ticks me off too much. I wanted to see what was up with this piece, so I ventured over. Here's my take:

The author is extremely to the left, as is evidenced by her not being happy with Kerry's 'fence-straddling', but she understands that it is " for political expedience". She thinks Kerry is making a mistake by not talking directly about this himself, instead of sending out his attack dogs. She is clearly blind to the fact that there could be a shred of truth to this matter.

I do not see this as her calling Kerry out for answers; it's a slight critique of his political technique. Trust me, you will not see anything approaching 'Fair and Balanced' from this paper.

After having read this entire op-ed piece at the Boston Globe’s web site I have a different take on it.

First, let’s be clear about one thing, an “op-ed” is supposed to be an editorial that OPposes a newspaper’s EDitorial policy (hence the term OP-ED).

The bulk of this piece contains statements such as “Bush is the known purveyor of false information”, “Kerry offers the promise of a credible voice speaking truth to Americans”, Vietnam veterans who use a “Willy Horton-like commercial”, and it goes on and on. There are also insinuations that the Bush campaign is behind the book “Unfit for Command” and that John Kerry was “Clearly a modest hero”.

Be careful folks because this is not an op-ed. It is a very thinly veiled pro-Kerry editorial disguised as an op-ed. And, knowing the Boston Globe, I think they knew exactly what they were doing when they labeled it an op-ed.

As far as the author’s supposed challenge for John Kerry to answer these accusations, there is little doubt in my mind that this was put there by the Kerry campaign as damage control. I think the Kerry campaign has spent the last two weeks sifting through what responses have worked best for them and now want to kill this movement altogether by having Kerry “go public” and recite these responses to a camera.

Also, if John O’Neill is invited to debate John Kerry, he should insist that the entire band of brothers be present (both Kerry’s and O’Neill’s) to give their side of the story since they are the ones actually quoted in the book.

Bingo!

There is no reason that this site should be providing hits for a piece that bashes Swifts, repeats the lying claim that it is an RNC mouthpiece and backed by the President.

When their hits go up, they can charge higher rates for advertising and claim them as part of their "credibility package."

I don't want to do anything here that aids and abets the people who are attempting to smear the founders of this group.

The issue is to get BG to recognize that there is trouble. Just remember the three steps:

1) Deny the problem.
2) Understand that there is a problem.
3) Define what it is that will be the solution to the problem.

The opposition is on number (2) even if it is only in passing.

Regardless of where they are at, any and all efforts need to be focused on forcing Kerry to sign the Form 180. Till you have the full detail of his records being prepared for rebuttal is premature. Kerry has to know that regardless of what he puts out there, full disclosure will dog him till he signs the form.

What I suspect is that Kerry's team is pouring over the records and the book looking for that little river that gets them out of the Mekong.

With or without paddle? I ask because that river is starting to look suspiciously brown, and it doesn't smell too good either.

Mona- I don't agree. I just don't see the victory here in this article. I see desperation. The author, who is entitled to her opinion, has tried to paint President Bush and the Swift Vets out to be some diabolical Bad Guys in a Batman series, about 9/10ths of the article. Then, we come to the END of the article after the loathing of President Bush part has been SEARED...SEARED in everyone's head Shocked Wink
to a very weakly reported fact.

Believe me, this is no admission on their part. If it was there certainly would have been more. this seems to be a desperate plea to the Masses and to the JOHN KERRY camp, Give us something to fight back with.
