I'm still working on the timeline for Kerry's service in the Swift boats, and I have some questions. (What a surprise, right!)
According to records I've reviewed so far, Fred Short took David Alston's place as the tub gunner "about two weeks" after David was injured (1/29/69). Kerry is supposed to have taken command of the 94 boat on the 30th, replacing Tedd Peck who was seriously wounded.
According to the COSDIV 11 Command History, the 94 boat did not take part in any patrols after the fateful day of 1/29/69 until 2/18/69. However, the SpotReports for February show the 94 on patrol on 2/13/69 with negative enemy contact.
If Fred Short took over "about two weeks" after Alston was wounded, that would fit with the 94 boat being in for repairs (and thus out of action) for the two weeks and returning to action on 2/13/69.
Is it common for the Command History to not reflect every patrol? Are the SpotReports more accurate in that regard? _________________ antimedia
