From "New Soldier" by John Kerry:
"And so a New Soldier has returned to America, to a nation torn apart by the killing we were asked to do. But, unlike veterans of other wars and some of this one, the New Soldier does not accept the old myths. We will not quickly join those who march on Veterans' Day waving small flags, calling to memory those thousands who died for the "greater glory of the United States. We will not accept the rhetoric.
We will not readily join the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars—in fact, we will find it hard to join anything at all and when we do, we will demand relevancy such as other organizations have recently been unable to provide. " |

Hey - I want to thank those VFW folks who were shouting during JK's speech -- and those that stood with their backs to him! You might not have been many - but it was moving nonetheless -- and I am not a vet, but please, I'd like to salute you. Thanks for not giving him a free pass. |

There are apparently 15,000 VFW members and their family members at this convention, but only 8,000 showed up to hear Kerry's speech, if I've got the numbers right?
Oklahoma's delegation - was it the only one who boycotted the speech?
I wonder how many more vets turned their backs and DIDN'T get photographed? _________________ ~ Echo Juliet ~

Do you think Kerry's upcoming speech at the American Legion will go better or worse? _________________ American Conservative |

Thanks! I'd like to have had a microphone at that moment and walked up and said to those guys, "Sir, can you tell me what is on your mind, right now, at this moment?" |

It's worth actually duplicating here since I don't see it much in the MSM:
Quote: | War veterans Jere Hill, middle, from Warham, Mass., and Robert Gibson, right, from Lexington, Ky., stand with their backs turned during Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry's speech at the 105th Veterans of Foreign Wars National Convention in Cincinnati on Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2004. Man in foreground is unidentified. Kerry received a polite if not overwhelmingly positive reaction from the VFW. But there was a clear divide, with scores of veterans sittings with their arms folded while others clapped. (AP Photo/David Kohl) |
I've e-mailed this to everyone on my contact list with a little Kerry background attached.
These guys are true patriots. God Bless them!

Considering that the VFW is populated mostly by Viet Nam era vets, and considering his treasonous anti-war activities, and that his testimony before congress accused these vets of atrocities such as baby killing in Nam, it is astonishing that they would allow Kerry to speak before them.
What it says to me is that the leadership of the VFW are suckups and media hounds, flattered by the propisition that they would be arrayed behind Kerry as he spoke on national TV. Bunch of f@#$ing a$$holes!
