NEW YORK, NY (Talon News) -- America's military veterans and active duty troops will make up almost 20 percent of the delegates on the floor of the Republican Convention later this month in New York City.

Ed Gillespie, chairman of the Republican National Committee, said on Monday, "We're proud to announce that nearly one in five delegates to the Republican National Convention is a veteran or is currently serving this country in our nation's Armed Forces."

"From the veterans who have fought to protect and preserve the freedoms we enjoy today to the men and women who are protecting us now as we fight the war on terror, they deserve our thanks and gratitude. We appreciate their sacrifice and are grateful for their service, both to their country and to our democratic process," Gillespie continued.

Nearly 4,800 delegates, in 55 separate delegations, will convene to nominate Republican President George W. Bush as the party's candidate to face Democratic nominee John Kerry.

Approximately 860 of those men and women will have served this country in the armed forces in past or present.

Democrats estimated that 11.5 per cent of their delegates were military veterans which was a higher percentage than ever before for a Democratic convention.

The 2004 Republican National Convention will be held for the first time ever in New York City at Madison Square Garden from August 30 to September 2, 2004. Nearly 50,000 visitors are expected to visit the city for the occasion.

Maybe some "registered Republican" should flag the GOP to make darn sure credentials are thoroughly vetted.
The news media seems to find "inaccuracies" easy to obtain from Republicans, but darn near impossible to track for Democrats.

About all that would be needed for examination of Kerry to literally do a 180 would be if the media found a Republican "Tom Harkin".
