Unfit for bookstores
The Kerry campaign calls on a conservative publisher to withdraw book after the Washington Post torpedoes the veracity of a Swift boat veteran.
The Kerry campaign has told Salon that the publisher of "Unfit for Command," the book that is at the center of the attack on Kerry's military record by the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, is retailing a hoax and should consider withdrawing it from bookstores. "No publisher should want to be selling books with proven falsehoods in them, especially falsehoods that are meant to smear the military service of an American veteran," said Kerry campaign spokesman Chad Clanton. "If I were them, I'd be ducking under my desk wondering what to do. This is a serious problem."

And, no recall for Farenheit 9-11 or the multitude of anti-Bush books that have hit the shelves recently?
I can smell the desparation in the air, LOL.

Since absolutely nothing in the book has been refuted, how do they determine it is filled with "PROVEN falsehoods?" _________________ Clark County Conservative |

So much for the First Amendment!
Someone once explained the Constitution's First Amendment to me as:
Quote: | Every American is guaranteed the right to be wrong. |
Surely, regardless of the truthfulness of Unfit for Command, this is the only reason that Michael Moore is not in jail?

Man, how many times can a campaign step on its own um.... tie.... before it stays down for good?
What a silly, silly, silly posturing move! I can only shake my head at the Einstein who came up with that one. Good heavens - is anyone with some savvy and brains actually LEADING over there??? _________________ ~ Echo Juliet ~

besides being an amazingly stupid move on John Kerry's part,
it actually is amazing that any Political Leader, and a standing Senator of the United States, would be calling for Censorship of political discourse and debate. |

integrity,
You have the right of it. That is an extremely stupid move on Kerry's part. Not only will it keep this on the front pages, but the ACLU will come rushing in on our side. See if I am wrong. The ACLU may be moonbat liberals, but I respect them....they are absolutely consistant in their principles...and freedom of speech is one of them.
Trust me. Kerry does NOT want to piss off the ACLU. _________________ -Polaris

The party that hollers freedom of speech all the time and they turn around and try to stifle it in the most direct way possible. Unbelieveable. |

Sorry, Polaris; I'm much too cynical re: the ACLU; I'll bet you $1 that they won't say a thing about the Kerry campaign's attempt to suppress the Swiftvets' message. _________________ Bye bye, Boston Straggler! |

Scott,
I dunno about that. The ACLU was willing to defend a KKK clansman after all. That said I will decline your bet because we have all the legal eagles we need with O'Neill and I am sure Judicial Watch won't sit this out either.
I am not worried...in fact I am giggling because Kerry just put another huge hole in his campaign. People don't like it when you start pushing for book banning. In fact President Bush can take the high road and say that while films and books are difficult to take sometime, it is only "American" to allow them...and then make a pointed comparison with F9/11.
At least if I were involved with Bush/Cheney (which I am not), that's how I'd do it.

P.S. I have to slink over to DU and see what they think. _________________ -Polaris

Chad Clanton. "If I were them, I'd be ducking under my desk wondering what to do. This is a serious problem."
Sounds like Mr. Clanton should be speaking of his own campaign to me! |

Everyone,
There continues to be a lot of fretting, and waiting for leadership (although they don't call it that) and a general attempt at damage control. However, they (for them) are pretty quiet right now. They don't seem to know about this latest move or aren't writing about it (your pick). _________________ -Polaris
