I see that the same attorney, Joseph Sandler, represents both organizations. Isn't this a conflict?

Also, Jim Jordan is a former Kerry campaign manager, and now serves as advisor to a 527 against President Bush.

Document this and you have a home run.

I've also heard that Harold Ickes has a similar conflict.

If anyone has supporting documentation on this post it!!!!!

From CNN: Note the last paragraph...MoveOn.org attorney is Joseph Sandler. Joseph Sandler, is general counsel for the DNC, according to the letters sent to the TV stations recently. Here is the link to the letter, as posted by Human Events:

Is CNN a good enough source?

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The Republican National Committee is warning television stations across the country not to run ads from the MoveOn.org Voter Fund that criticize President Bush, charging that the left-leaning political group is paying for them with money raised in violation of the new campaign-finance law.

"As a broadcaster licensed by the Federal Communications Commission, you have a responsibility to the viewing public, and to your licensing agency, to refrain from complicity in any illegal activity," said the RNC's chief counsel, Jill Holtzman Vogel, in a letter sent to about 250 stations Friday.

"Now that you have been apprised of the law, to prevent further violations of federal law, we urge you to remove these advertisements from your station's broadcast rotation."

But MoveOn.org's lawyer, Joseph Sandler, said in a statement that the ads were funded legally, calling the RNC's letter "a complete misrepresentation of the law."

If anyone doubts the accuracy of CNN in naming Joseph Sandler as the MoveOn.org attorney, do a 'Google' search of moveon.org Joseph Sandler and you will come up with several references. The killer is the signature on the letter from the DNC.

Remember when you debate people who point out how SBVFT has ties to the Republicans, notably Spaeth Communications for PR, that MoveOn.org uses @dvocacy, Inc., which specializes in Dem campaigns (including Bob Graham and Dick Gephardt for Prez among 20 other Dems they list on their site). Kerry's Director of Communications and Organization (Exley?) came from MoveOn.org. Media Fund was started by by Ickes, Clinton's deputy Chief of Staff.

Perry may have given $100-150K to SBVFT, but Steve Bing has given $12 *million* to Dem 527s, and the boss of Progressive has given over $14 million (Soros is about 3rd on the list, although best known).

Ironically, it would only be a conflict if there was a substantive conflict between the interests of both parties. Being counsel to both shows how their goals and interests are the same allowing representation.

It demonstrates the abject hypocrisy of the Democrats who attack SBVFT for Republican connections.

You guys are missing the point. The MSM knows full well how connected Moveon.org, ACT and the others are connected to the Dems.

By the New York Times standards, the MSM is in collusion with the Democratic party. Michael Moore and Harvey Weinstein especially are in collusion with the Dems.

The New York Times knows this. Fairness and an expose was not the point. That article was written so people who had not read it and did not see how embarrassingly flimsy the evidence was, can be told that the "The New York times inarguably documented the connection with Swift Boat Vets and Karl Rove".

I heard Andrea Mitchell saying that now no one could possibly deny the fact that they were working together. The salon.com article was written with the assumption that the Swift Boat Vets have been discredited: no what do we do?

It is not clear to me how much this is delusional and how much is just strategy. But I have to think they have some doubts about their guy. How could they not?

In my mind, this is what happens when you try to control the primary process from the DNC. They were panicking so much about Howard Dean Mcaulliffe threw in anyone he could. And they got Kerry without properly checking him out.

(When is the DNC going to realize that Mcaullife can raise money with the Chinese, but that doesn't make him a great strategist).

The irony is that O'Neill tried to warn the DNC last Fall, IIRC. They wouldn't listen...

Is this legal?

"The Democratic Party is partnering with MoveOn.org, People for the American Way, Campaign for America's Future, and dozens of other groups representing millions of Americans to organize a massive public mobilization. "

http://www.democrats.org/wvc/weekinreview/200305120002.html

Near the bottom.

As I understand it, this would be legal (as would a joint GOTV drive) in that it is not the endorsement of particular candidate but a policy (tax relief).

I should probably look up the code on 527s, but I *hate* decyphering tax code...
