Kerry Campaign Statement on New Swift Boat Veterans for Bush Ad
8/20/2004 5:16:00 PM
To: National Desk, Political Reporter
Contact: Chad Clanton or Phil Singer, both of Kerry-Edwards 2004, 202-464-2800; Web: http://www.johnkerry.com
WASHINGTON, Aug. 20 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Kerry-Edwards campaign spokesman Chad Clanton released the following statement today about the new Swift Boat Veterans for Bush Ad:
"This is another ad from a front group funded by Bush allies that is trying to smear John Kerry. The newest ad takes Kerry's testimony out of context, editing what he said to distort the facts. He testified as a 27 year-old Vietnam veteran. He opposed a war that, at that point, cost over 44,000 lives of the 58,245 names that are on the Vietnam Memorial wall. It says a lot that the President refuses to condemn this smear. The American people want to hear how we're going to cut health care costs and strengthen the economy, not smears."

More Republican Ties Revealed Behind "Swift Boat Vets For Bush", Says Kerry Campaign
8/20/2004 5:45:00 PM
To: National Desk
Contact: Chad Clanton or Phil Singer, 202-464-2800, both of Kerry-Edwards 2004
WASHINGTON, Aug. 20 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Public records reveal that two of the people in the new "Swift Boat Veterans for Bush" television ad are Republican activists, as the fact sheet below shows. This is just more proof that Bush's Republican allies are the ones behind this disgraceful smear of John Kerry's military record. It's pretty clear what's going on here. It's no wonder the Bush campaign refuses to condemn this smear."

this release goes on to list all the supposed ‘dirt’ they have on the 2 POWs in the ad - Kenneth Cordier and Paul Galanti

What else can we expect? Kerry won't address any issues raised, he just bashes those who oppose him. _________________ Clark County Conservative |

and they want it both ways too....in these releases they cite Galanti's support of McCain as a reason he's a Republican hack....but in their new internet ad, the Kerry Campaign is using McCain's image (from 2000) to support their cintentions....I sure hope that McCain enjoys being used the way he is by the Kerry folks. It is really pretty pathetic and shows that they have no hope of disputing the SBVT on the merits... |

Holy crap.
I am in a state of shock at the stupid A$$ statements of the DNC. That article proves NOTHING. BFD if that guy gave over $2000 to the Republicans.
I just pray that the Moderate Democrats can take their party back from the Ultra Left losers. |

If you notice they are renaming "Swift Boat Veterans for
Truth" into "Swift Boat Veterans for Bush" I think this is a Ploy to try to trip up SBVT. I think this error should be answered ASAP.

Maybe a constitutional expert can point out to me the clause in the First Amendment that states that an American citizen must prove he has no ties to the Republican party before exercising free speech rights. I can't seem to find it in my copy of the Bill of Rights. |

They seem to have narrowed their response to several veins.
a) Bush is a draft dodger!!
b) The Vets are part of the "republican attack machine."
c) Lets talk about healthcare!!
Bottom line is they have no choice but to change the subject. Or at leats try to. At this point Kerry should fire whoever decided to try to make his VietNam service the central theme of his campaign. Talk about stepping on a mine.... they hopped right in. _________________ <insert pithy signature here> |

Here is my response to their press release:
Exactly what "context" was it that made it okay to call our soldiers, sailors and marines rapists and murderers? Are you still saying that you believe they were? Are you proud of the impact your words had on our brave POWs who were resisting torture to avoid saying what you did? _________________ Whose side is John Kerry really on? Does Kerry really think that "I wasn't making unproven false allegations myself. I was simply repeating those unproven false allegations to congress so they can be stored in the national record and be televised to the world. But I wasn't making those allegations myself."
What are the chances that people buy this? Clearly, those who want to buy will, but what about all the others?
And what about, at another time, when he said that witnessed and performed in War Crimes himself?
Here is a question: Does he honestly not get that Bush is not involved, or is that simply a tactic? _________________ Talking point #1: Sign 180

Yeah.. But the point is that they're not being challenged.
Look at the MSM converage. How many articles about this point out that there is no evidence of communication between SBVT and Bush? I haven't found any. They repeat the accusations and leave it at that.
We need to push Sen Mcain to give another statement supporting the right of these veterans to be heard. |

Of course they don't mention that Oneill gave 25 thousand to Democrats in recent years.
Well, I guess the Bush conspiracy idea is all they have got. Pathetic.

The calling the Swiftvets the Swiftvets for Bush is one way the left
always operates. I remember on 9/11 watching Jennings call the
president 'MR. Bush" all day. I noticed at the time and wondered what
he was doing. He was just doing the usual liberal spin, the change the
wording to something that can hurt the president or the country.
They lie, they believe the whatever it takes type of thinking and will not
stop at anything to smear the president.
Well,, there are enough days left to get the news out about Kerry,
and from what I have heard the book is really making
people think and wonder, what if this is true? Do we want this
type of man to be president?
They always play it too hard as they are doing now. regardless of what
they think about the people of America, they are not stupid in any way.
They will continue to throw their spin until the election, and then I
guess it is in the voters hands.
Many people had no idea he had such a past, now they are finding out,
really finding out! good stuff. _________________ Swiftvets rock! |

IamHG. Yea Kerry should fire the guy that said to run on his war record. Unfortunately I don't think he will fire himself. He knows full well what would happen if he ran on his Senate record or his Anti-War record.
He is the only Vet that I have heard that allows himself to be called a "WAR HERO" In Peter Smith Post 327 of the American Legion, there are alot of highly decorated vets from WWII, Korea, and Viet Nam and I have never heard any of them refer to themselves or others down there as "WAR HEROs" |
