So far they are much better than I expected. I thought we were going to get slaughtered after the Rood deal. However, things on the whole are going quite well. I am really heartened by Brit Hume and Billy Kristal, who seem to really get it. Poor Juan from NPR is a sorry man. By the way don't our tax dollars support NPR. How can they be so connected to the Kerry campain? |

I think Brit may be a key player in this.
On a show last week he was talking about all the different versions of the Silver & Bronze stars. Opined that it was interesting that Lehman signed the newer versions when Kerry was on some senate committee [ foreign relations?]
Lehman Secty Navy 1981 -1987
Kerry joined senate 1985
Hope Brit follows up on this _________________ .

Brit has his teeth into this. However, he did make a comment that surprised me when he said this will be over soon and no one will be talking about it. That was strange .. sort of demeaning the entire story and the mission of the SBV, which seems contrary to how hard he is working on this story. He needs emails on that attitude -- and mine has already been sent! |

Nothing in the Rood article to get slaughtered about. It confirms the story in
"Unfit for Command" concerning the circumstances surrounding the February
28, 1969 Silver Star incident .... including the presence of only ONE enemy.
Read the comments by Jerome Corsi in yesterday's (Aug 21) WorldNetDaily:
"Unfit" author sees little contradiction between swift boat book, new report
The Kerry campaign has been out digging for people to come forward and say
things complementry to their postion: Bill Rood, Bob Johnston, Toi Dang, et al
Quote: | Rood wrote that Kerry recently contacted him and other crew members,
requesting that they go public with their accounts of what happened that
February day. |
So far the results have been dismal failures

Jeff Birnbaum (Splainer Man) of the Washington Post appeared on Fox News Sunday just now. Said that there is lots of controversy over Silver Star incident, "truth" will never be found out due to "fog of war".
He did stress that many veterans were "angry" about Kerry's antiwar activities, that this could seriously hurt Kerry in the polls.
He didn't come down on the side of SBVT or Kerry, but he was fair.
Birnbaum got a few dates wrong. He said that the Silver Star incident was March 13, 1968 instead of 1969. He also said that Kerry's anti-war testimony was in 1974, not 1971.
Somebody (a veteran who was there, not me) needs to contact Fox and Birnbaum about these factual errors.
Keep it up, guys!!! _________________ The traitor will crater! |

The anchor on Fox Weekend Live was just interviewing Jeff Birnbaum of the Wash Post, of all papers. It seems that Jeff still doesn't fully understand the depth of this issue, and further demonstrates his ignorance of all things military. One thing did crack me up - he referred to Rassman as a "special services" officer. What were his duties - handing out socks and jocks to Kerry's crew?????
Ignorance of the press torques me to no end. Another one was hearing a reporter refer to a fast frigate or destroyer as a "battleship".... It rips any remaing credibility they may have to ribbons.

Does anyone know what Rassmann's true duties were, to clear this up, and why was he with Kerry on a Swift Boat? _________________ The traitor will crater! |

The "fog of war"...more like the fog of some journalists. Like JuaNPRWilliams...reading the book at a snail's pace. I guess they do that so they can claim plausible deniability for their ignorance. Put them in the Jason Blair category of negligent reporters. _________________ kerry returned to the United States on July 22, 1971, held a press conference publicly calling on President Nixon... for the surrender of the United States to North Vietnam. |

I would like to see one of them take on kerry's recent challenge -- if they listen to it, it is addressed to Bush, but why don't they press him on the fact that he has NO PROOF it is Bush, so why would he be screaming for a debate without proof? If he has proof, bring it on! In reality it is a slap back AT THE AD, which are the people accusing him, and that is obvious, yet no one even speculates that (they sure enough speculate on everything else!). This request for a debate about his service is actually addressed to SBVFT -- and I think as people start to realize this, he will be sorry for freaking out and losing it. |

I don't agree based on Fox's "Weekend Live" with Chris Wallace.
O'Dell is a favorite of mine but he missed 2 opportunities and got mauled a bit --he stuck in there and kept himself above water but he has done much better in the past.
[Can any of your guys get the KEY points to the on-air people?]
1) Ealier, he has made is very clear he was in a PRIVILEGED position:
"14 feet above the waterline, 360 degree view" with the responsibility of guarding everyone else from the gun tub while the rescue continued.
He almost said it (since I know that) but a casual listener would not have been especially convinced.
2) Wallace also mauled him on "not one document" but there ARE documents, like Kerry's wound treatment for his RICE wound that now appears on his Bronze Star -- moved in time, place, and maybe from leg to arm.
This is the place one must say: "Mr. Kerry exectute FORM 180 to publicly
release all of your military records so that the truth will be known...."
No mention of FORM 180.
BTW, the WaPo today has many of the facts right (even outs Kerry on the RICE wound) but it is so heavily slanted (giving their opinion in favor of Kerry before giving a VERY CONFUSED version of the facts which mixes any number of versions and even other events (like Rood).
It does list Kerry's RICE wound as self-inflicted in both the text and that excellent graphic they have. (It however repeats the "second explosion" BS.
How does one get wounded by shrapnel from an underwater mine "close aboard"?
Ok, now they are floating a new story, RPG or Rocket. How does one get shrapnel from a rocket or RPG while riding on a BOAT without losing PART OF THE BOAT? _________________ Herb |

Amen.
From what I can gather, Rassman was an Army Special Forces officer, likely the OIC of a team being ferried to or from a mission by the Swifties, which in itself doesn't seem to be unusual. I don't know, I wasn't there, and I am waiting for the book so I can get the facts.
This supposed fog of war IS more a self-induced fog by a lot of these MSM so-called journalists. They are still in denial about their boy. It seems that SBVT is dragging them, kicking and screaming to an acknowledgment that something big is happening out there in fly-over country.
The president is doing the right thing - just keep thanking Kerry for his service and let him hang in the wind. I don't recall Kerry coming to Bush's rescue all through the spring and summer, when MoveOn.org, and Fat-A-- Moore were piling it on. Bush took it in stride, like a man, and continued to march.
What a difference in character!

One of the reasons that journalists tend to be confused with the facts is that they aren't provided with easy-to-digest bullet points. They have to look at a mass of (conflicting) information, find the conflicts for themselves, weigh them, etc. And they have other things to talk about. Many of them haven't had time/made the effort to read the entire book, if any at all.
It would be much easier for them if they had, for example, a list of incidents, with Kerry's version(s) bullet pointed, conflicting testimony presented with each point and bolded/colored, and full testimony (in bullet point format, of course!) from each relevant SBVT member, with important points colored/bolded. |
