The US is the first country called on by every nation in time of need, and the first one to be blamed or to thumb noses at any other time, as the world tries to re-order itself after centuries of an old status-quo that has crumbled, leaving only the US with enough power to provide the broom and the dust-pan to clean it up. The world is in the condition it's in now largely from three hundred years of European colonialism where primative nation-states were not allowed to develop at their own pace,

You don't subjugate peoples and nations like a raw material depository for ages and then have it "all-better" in fifty years.

There was no whining when the US joined into completely European wars about how brash we were.

Viet Nam was a clean-up fiasco after a hundred years of French policy. The former colony-holding nations now snidely preach a moral high-ground after centuries of ruling en-slaving and killing it's aboriginal peoples and pillaging their natural resourses, just because they've now relinquished their colonial holdings.

And did not do so out of a sense of new-found morality, but only because they no longer had the financial ability (from increasing social programs at home) nor the military power to hold on to them any longer

A world created by Disraeli, Clemenceau and Bismark, in the smoke-filled back rooms of London, Paris, Lisbon and Berlin by kings, kaisers and Bank of London officers is what we all must deal with now

Good policy, bad policy, enlightened policy, selfish policy has come from the US. But the US has only been a significant player on the world stage for a little over fifty years.

AMERICA NEEDS TO WAKE UP!
That's what we think we heard on the 11th of September 2001 and maybe it was, but I think it should
have been "Get Out of Bed!" In fact, I think the alarm clock has been buzzing since 1979 and we
have continued to hit the snooze button and roll over for a few more minutes of peaceful sleep since
then.

It was a cool fall day in November 1979 in a country going through a religious and political upheaval
when a group of Iranian students attacked and seized the American Embassy in Tehran. This
seizure was an outright attack on American soil; it was an attack that held the world's most powerful
country hostage and paralyzed a Presidency. The attack on this sovereign U. S. embassy set the
stage for events to follow for the next 23 years.

America was still reeling from the aftermath of the Vietnam experience and had a serious threat from
the Soviet Union when then, President Carter, had to do something. He chose to conduct a
clandestine raid in the desert. The ill-fated mission ended in ruin, but stood as a symbol of
America's inability to deal with terrorism. America's military had been decimated and
downsized/right sized since the end of the Vietnam War. A poorly trained, poorly equipped and
poorly organized military was called on to execute a complex mission that was doomed from the
start.

Shortly after the Tehran experience, Americans began to be kidnapped and killed throughout the
Middle East. America could do little to protect her citizens living and working abroad. The attacks
against US soil continued.

In April of 1983 a large vehicle packed with high explosives was driven into the US Embassy
compound in Beirut. When it explodes, it kills 63 people. The alarm went off again and America hit
the Snooze Button once more.

Then just six short months later a large truck heavily laden down with over 2500 pounds of TNT
smashed through the main gate of the US Marine Corps headquarters in Beirut and 241 US
servicemen are killed. America mourns her dead and hit the Snooze Button once more.

Two months later in December 1983, another truck loaded with explosives is driven into the US
Embassy in Kuwait, and America continues her slumber.

The following year, in September 1984, another van was driven into the gates of the US Embassy in
Beirut and America slept.

Soon the terrorism spreads to Europe. In April 1985 a bomb explodes in a restaurant frequented by
US soldiers in Madrid.

Then in August a Volkswagen loaded with explosives is driven into the main gate of the US Air Force
Base at Rhein-Main, 22 are killed and the snooze alarm is buzzing louder and louder as US interests
are continually attacked.

Fifty-nine days later a cruise ship, the Achille Lauro is hijacked and we watched as an American in a
wheelchair is singled out of the passenger list and executed.

The terrorists then shift their tactics to bombing civilian airliners when they bomb TWA Flight 840 in
April of 1986 that killed 4 and the most tragic bombing, Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland
in 1988, killing 259.

America wants to treat these terrorist acts as crimes; in fact we are still trying to bring these people
to trial. These are acts of war.

The wake up alarm is getting louder and louder The terrorists decide to bring the fight to America. In
January 1993, two CIA agents are shot and killed as they enter CIA headquarters in Langley,
Virginia.

The following month, February 1993, a group of terrorists are arrested after a rented van packed with
explosives is driven into the underground parking garage of the World Trade Center in New York
City. Six people are killed and over 1000 are injured. Still this is a crime and not an act of war?

The Snooze alarm is depressed again. Then in November 1995 a car bomb explodes at a US
military complex in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia killing seven service men and women.

A few months later in June of 1996, another truck bomb explodes only 35 yards from the US military
compound in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. It destroys the Khobar Towers, a US Air Force barracks,
killing 19 and injuring over 500. The terrorists are getting braver and smarter as they see that
America does not respond decisively..

They move to coordinate their attacks in a simultaneous attack on two US embassies in Kenya and
Tanzania. These attacks were planned with precision. They kill 224. America responds with cruise
missile attacks and goes back to sleep.

The USS Cole was docked in the port of Aden, Yemen for refueling on 12 October 2000, when a
small craft pulled along side the ship and exploded killing 17 US Navy Sailors. Attacking a US War
Ship is an act of war, but we sent the FBI to investigate the crime and went back to sleep.

And of course you know the events of 11 September 2001. Most Americans think this was the first
attack against US soil or in America. How wrong they are. America has been under a constant
attack since 1979 and we chose to hit the snooze alarm and roll over and go back to sleep.

In the news lately we have seen lots of finger pointing from every high officials in government over
what they knew and what they didn't know. But if you've read the papers and paid a little attention I
think you can see exactly what they knew. You don't have to be in the FBI or CIA or on the National
Security Council to see the pattern that has been developing since 1979.

The President is right on when he says we are engaged in a war. I think we have been in a war for
the past 23 years and it will continue until we as a people decide enough is enough.

America needs to "Get out of Bed" and act decisively now. America has been changed forever. We
have to be ready to pay the price and make the sacrifice to ensure our way of life continues. We
cannot afford to keep hitting the snooze button again and again and roll over and go back to sleep.

After the attack on Pearl Harbor, Admiral Yamamoto said "...it seems all we have done is awakened
a sleeping giant." This is the message we need to disseminate to terrorists around the world.

Support Our Troops and support President Bush for having the courage, political or militarily, to
address what to many who preceded him didn't have the backbone to do both Democrat and
Republican. This is not a political thing to be hashed over in an election year this is an AMERICAN

It is true that terrorists cannot be defeated, because terrorists lack the sense of honor to admit defeat. But terrorism can be stopped. That's what we're doing, and what we must continue to do.Even multi-culturalists who try to browbeat us into believing that all cultures are equally deserving of respect have trouble explaining the past 500 years of Islam.

Our Navy currently has 12 carrier battle groups and 1 of these groups is more powerful then the entire european navy. Our military is so much more advanced then the rest of the world there is nothing but contempt for it. We have 2 very huge weapons systems coming online within the next year which will only further their contempt for us. The F-22 fighting platform which nothing curently in the world can compete with (check out my thread http://www.swiftvets.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1700 on the F-22) and the AC-130 gunship laser gun system which is based on technology coming out of Reagons star wars program. Yeah the world doesn't like our wealth or our technological advance. Recently a fortune 500 tech ceo after coming back from europe made the proclamation 20 years from now India will be the worlds white collar country, China the blue collar country, and the US the technological country. Europe will become irrelevant and contributing very little to the world. I happen to agree with this assesment and no doubt this is also reason for their hatred for us. We are moving forward and europe backward.

Great Rant Detective,

My first memory of terrorism was a little earlier though. I was only six and didn't really fully understand what was going on at the Olympic games in Germany when Palastinian terrorists kidnapped and later killed 11 Israeli athletes. My memory is only of the firey remains of the helicopter that was exploded and burnt up. Looking back though, I think that someone hit the snooze there as well. Anyway I do know that we can't just close our eyes and wish them away; It doesn't work.

Also add the 1985 hijacking of the Achillie Lauro where 69 year old Leon Klinghoffer was thrown overboard in his wheelchair.

Aye, thanks...and since we are on the subject... (and yes,I will wax poetic later on the the disgusting animalistic Munich masacre,did you know the so called palestinians have an olympic team this year?Yes the very same people who started all of this airport screening,airplane hijacking,baby bombers.....but I get ahead of myself)

All the rhetoric on whether or not we should have gone go to war against Iraq has got my little brain spinning like a top. I enjoy reading opinions from both sides, but I've detected a hint of confusion from some of you. Maybe this can help.


As I was reading the paper recently, I was reminded of the best advice
anyone ever gave me. He told me about the "KISS" method ("Keep It Simple,
Stupid!"). So with this as a theme, I'd like to apply this theory for
those who don't quite get it. My hope is that we can simplify things and
recognize a few important facts.


Here are ten things to consider when voicing an opinion on this important issue:


(1) Between President Bush and Saddam Hussein ... Hussein is the bad guy.

(2) If you have faith in the United Nations to do the right things, keep this in mind: the UN has Libya heading the Committee on Human Rights and Iraq heading the Global Disarmament Committee. Do your own math here.

(3) If you use a Google or Yahoo search and type in "French Military Victories," don't be surprised if your computer panics at its inability to respond to your inquiry.

(4) If your only anti-war slogan is "No War For Oil," hire a pit bull lawyer and sue your school district for having allowed you to slip through the cracks and robbing you of the minimum education that any non-troglodyte deserves

(5) You can take this one to the bank: Saddam and bin Laden will NOT seek UN approval before they try to kill us.

(6) Despite common belief among lefties,Martin Sheen is NOT a President He only plays one on TV.


(7) If you are anti-war and even an outright "America Basher," to bin Laden you are still an "infidel" whom he wants dead.

( Be careful: if you believe in a "vast right-wing conspiracy," but not in the danger that Hussein poses, the only job you may be able to get is as an Ivy League college professor.

(9) Even multi-culturalists who try to browbeat us into believing that all cultures are equally deserving of respect have trouble explaining the past 500 years of Islam.

Now, as controversial as this subject is amongst many, lets touch on the Israeli/So called 'Palestininan' conflict. Why? Because its important in the terms of the big picture of what is happening in the middle east,our relationship with the islamic east and terrorism in general.

But once again I get ahead of myself. The term "palestinians" is a misnomer."Palestine" is and never has been a country.It's a region.Much like our Rockie Mountains or the Balkans.Historical precedence serves no purpose as to who owns what on the international stage. the Indians wont get back America, the Aztecs wont get back Mexico, and the so called Palestinians wont get back Israel even though they never had it to begin with.It's never had a formal Govt,Borders,currency,King or Queen,standing army,Military victories,constitution.

Most arab nations use Israel (and now America)as a scapegoat to avoid dealing with their own problems. it is easier to blame someone than to deal with your own problems.In this case its the "Jews" and Americans fault.

Please dont even try to bring the IDF to the Pals level of moral equivalence, because that dog dont fetch. The IDF strikes in retaliation, only infact, hamas killed while Israel sat at the peace tables.

In 1917, Britain issued the Balfour Declaration and promised "the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish People."
The British then turned around and gave over 77 percent of Palestine to the Arab Hashemites,

For what became Jordan. The remaining 23 percent, west of the River Jordan, was supposedly for the Jews.
But in '47 the 23% was divided again leaving the jews 55% of that. in all a total of 18% of the mandate of Palestine. .
the arabs chose war instead of a state.Jordan and Egypt occupied the west bank & gaza until they lost it in war. why no state for those 20 yrs?

owned by Jordan and there were no "Palestinians" then either. As soon as the Jews took over and started growing oranges as big as basketballs, what do you know, say hello to the "Palestinians," weeping for their deep bond with the lost "land" and "nation."

So for the sake of honesty, let's not use the word "Palestinian" anymore to describe these delightful folks who dance for joy at our deaths on 9-11-01 in the WTC attacks until someone points out they're being taped. Instead, let's call them what they really are:

"Other Arabs Who Can't Accomplish Anything In Life And Would rather Wrap Themselves In The Seductive Melodrama Of Eternal Struggle And Death."


I know that's a bit unwieldy to expect to see on CNN. How about this, then: Adjacent Jew Haters". Okay, so the Adjacent Jew Haters want their own country.
Oops, just one more thing. No, they don't. They could've had their own country any time in the last 30 years, especially three or so years ago at Camp David.

But if you have your own country, you have to have traffic lights and garbage trucks and Chambers of Commerce, and worse, you actually have to figure out some way to make a living.

That's no fun. No, they want what all the other Jew Haters in the region want:Isreal They also want a big pile of dead Jews, of course--that's where the real fun is--but mostly they want Israel.

Why? For one thing, trying to destroy Israel--or "The Zionist Entity"--as their textbooks call it--

Why we are fightin this war - Monday, August 23, 2004 12:23 PM

Anti-American opponents of America's war in Iraq (and indeed of all American wars since the beginning of the Cold War) have taken to hiding behind the flag to avoid responsibility for their radical agendas. There are honorable critics of the war -- Brent Scowcroft and Francis Fukuyama would qualify as two conservative critics and Alan Colmes and Jacob Weisberg, the editor of Slate, would qualify as liberal ones. But there are many more whose antipathy is not really for this war in particular so much as it is for American policy in general. These radical critics would like to see America lose the War on Terror just as they wanted us to lose the Cold War. That would further the "liberation" of Third World peoples and indeed of all mankind, in their distorted view. Their leading spokesmen are Howard Dean and Michael Moore; their leading publications are The Nation and CommonDreams.org,

Then there are the Democratic Party opportunists whose pathological hatred of George Bush and unseemly lust for power have made them disregardful of the security interests of three hundred million Americans and people the world over who depend on us to defeat the terrible forces of radical Islam that are ranged on the other side. Typical leaders of this faction are Al Gore (pathological hatred) and Ted Kennedy, (lust for power and general degeneracy). The mark of these betrayers of the American cause is their reckless disregard for truth and -- equally important -- for the impact that their wild accusations have in undermining the American cause in Iraq.

The New York Times, which is part of the third group and has played a disgraceful role on its news pages in misreporting the war, has nonetheless printed an important article by a United States marine pilot who is stationed in Iraq on its op-ed pages. The whole article can be read here (and is worth the reading). Herein follow the crucial paragraphs which address this issue:

"When critics of the war say their advocacy is on behalf of those of us risking our lives here, it's a type of false patriotism. I believe that when Americans say they "support our troops," it should include supporting our mission, not just sending us care packages. They don't have to believe in the cause as I do; but they should not denigrate it. That only aids the enemy in defeating us strategically.

"Michael Moore recently asked Bill O'Reilly if he would sacrifice his son for Falluja. A clever rhetorical device, but it's the wrong question: this war is about Des Moines, not Falluja. This country is breeding and attracting militants who are all eager to grab box cutters, dirty bombs, suicide vests or biological weapons, and then come fight us in Chicago, Santa Monica or Long Island. Falluja, in fact, was very close to becoming a city our forces could have controlled, and then given new schools and sewers and hospitals, before we pulled back in the spring. Now, essentially ignored, it has become a Taliban-like state of Islamic extremism, a terrorist safe haven. We must not let the same fate befall Najaf or Ramadi or the rest of Iraq. No, I would not sacrifice myself, my parents would not sacrifice me, and President Bush would not sacrifice a single marine or soldier simply for Falluja. Rather, that symbolic city is but one step toward a free and democratic Iraq, which is one step closer to a more safe and secure America.

"I miss my family, my friends and my country, but right now there is nowhere else I'd rather be. I am a United States Marine."
