As for McCain, I have nothing but the highest regard for him. He IS a hero, by anyone's standard. If you can prove that anybody who signed the Swift Boat Vets open letter declaring Kerry unfit for CIC has unfairly criticized McCain, tell me and I will take it up with them directly!

Walt, my understanding is that the PR outfit that put together the press conference earlier this month for the Swifties for Truth is the same one behind the smearing of McCain during the South Carolina Primary in 2000.

I can say that there was McCain bashing of the highest order that week, and Bush stood back and let it happen, again, and again, and again.

Craig: Ouch! Yeah, you're probably right. I was talking about the 19 person photo, which I think are the officers who served with him. Although I'm sure a few might have actually gone on missions with him or been in boats with him on multi-vessel missions, they aren't his regular crewmembers. Semper Fi!

To continue what I said to you earlier about the photo . . . from what I could see at that press conference, Steven Gardner was the only one there who was on Kerry's boat -- the 44, to be specific.

I don't think any of the officers served on boats alongside Kerry, or they would have mentioned it -- shouted it from the rooftops, probably. Most of them (and I'm referring to his fellow Lt's) weren't even in-country when Kerry was.

The two other Navy officers on boats (there were two others) the day of the Silver Star incident weren't there, and I'm pretty sure the same is true for the day of the Bronze Star (there were four others) incident.

All this isn't to say those guys don't have a right to complain if they didn't serve with/alongside Kerry, but I'd say they came close to misrepresenting themselves when it came to that.
