Phila. Inquirer's article on page 1 of today's newspaper ( http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/news/breaking_news/9471294.htm?1c , "Swift Boat ads roiling campaign waters") shows just how desperate - and underhanded - the mainstream media has become.

It nakedly shows how the media attempts to patronize its readership and lead them on. The first two paragraphs, attacking Bush and the SwiftVets in the finest of Leftist ad-hominem tradition, and spelling out how readers should interpret everything else, simply do not belong in any newspaper:

Considering the fact that George W. Bush never got closer to Vietnam than the Air National Guard, it is a testament to the shrewdness of his allies that they have managed to turn this presidential campaign into a referendum on the guy who actually went to war.

It probably doesn't matter that John Kerry's antagonists in the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth are demonstrably fact-challenged; as evidenced on the TV talk shows yesterday, they lack documentary proof for their most serious assertions, and, in many cases, their current ire toward Kerry has been undercut by their past praise.

This is not news reporting. The main stream media has a mandate to be objective, but violate this mandate egregiously and continually in support of their agenda.

I suggest people learn this well and change their reading and viewing habits accordingly.

The author's email address is dpolman@phillynews.com . Maybe an infusion of email from SwiftVets readers will help this "journalist" stick to the standards of his profession.
