APSB,
That's true except that the two men with Kerry at the time (that are party of Kerry's band of brothers no less) are on record as saying that they didn't remember any enemy fire.

Actually, there is some debate as to whether they still assert that there was no enemy fire. As with other stories, the reports are conflicting.
Another certainty is that the wound to Kerry's butt on 13 Mar 1969 is self-inflicted. He also got a "minor" contusion that day. Somewhere along the line that minor contusion became a "bleeding" arm. The casualty report says "contusion (minor)."
Can you be awarded a Purple Heart for a "minor" bruise? |

Zaldonis and Runyon have both flip-flopped. That's why Kerry won't let them speak. Just wait on this one for RADM Schachte. _________________ On Sale! No, but it DOES mean that Chris Mathews may finally have that coronary that he seemed so close to the other night when he was bludgeoning Michelle Malkin on that "self-inflicted" point! _________________ ~ Echo Juliet ~

And it's supposed to have a report accompanying it. And that's what still missing, correct? But - technically - couldn't Kerry then claim the watermine under PCF-3 as 'hostile fire' and was that mine remotely detonated by someone on shore? Is that what Odell meant by "command detonated"?
------------------------------------------------------------------
I'd just edit this to add that I just got the book, today. And I see it's claimed that the mine WAS remotely detonated, by not a VC, but a "VC sympathizer" ashore (I don't know how one knew that). So they really had extra reason to fear a set up and fire from shore, because the enemy really was on shore. And they really were ambushed. But the enemy may have fled into the jungle, or gone down into tunnels, or whatever, and didn't fire back. And there were no other explosions, no other mines. |
