Mary Beth Cahill to Ken Mehlman: Release the Bush Records
Washington, DC – Kerry-Edwards campaign manager Mary Beth Cahill today sent the following letter to Bush Cheney ’04 Campaign Manager Ken Mehlman in response to a letter Mehlman sent yesterday:
July 13, 2004
Ken Mehlman
Campaign Manager
BUSH-CHENEY '04, Inc.
Dear Ken:
Over the past several months, allies of the President have questioned John Kerry’s patriotism while your staff has criticized his service in Vietnam. Republicans and their allies have gone so far as to launch attacks against his wife and your campaign has run $80 million in negative ads that have been called baseless, misleading and unfair by several independent observers.
Considering that the President has failed to even come close to keeping his promise to change the tone in Washington, we find your outrage over and paparazzi-like obsession with a fund-raising event to be misplaced. The fact is that the nation has a greater interest in seeing several documents made public relating to the President’s performance in office and personal veracity that the White House has steadfastly refused to release. As such, we will not consider your request until the Bush campaign and White House make public the documents/materials listed below:
● Military records: Any copies of the President’s military records that would actually prove he fulfilled the terms of his military service. For that matter, it would be comforting to the American people if the campaign or the White House could produce more than just a single person to verify that the President was in Alabama when said he was there. Many Americans find it odd that only one person out of an entire squadron can recall seeing Mr. Bush.

Wow. The campaign is imploding, sending off letters without thinking through the consequences.
Bush should respond: I'll sign the 180 if Kerry does too. |

That letter is almost a month and a half old. I think we are little past that now unless I'm missing the point. _________________ The war against terrorism is not that Americans might die rather that we would alter our way of living. That is a little over a month old...IIRC, that request was in response to the request from the Bush camp that the Kerry Camp make public the video of the celebrity gathering that included Whoopi Goldgerg's crass comments....

Good point. I didn't even notice the date. And RV, from what I read at the National Review, Bush hasn't signed the 180. |

Yes it is a month old.But it shows that they demanded Bush's records so how can they claim Kerry's records can't be looked at ? |

Bush did. My point is Kerry demanded Bush release his records but Kerry won't release his. |

Is this for real? (a link would be nice...)
If it is, then the Kerry camp is really starting to lose it. This is unbelievable.
Here they are defending their decision not to release Kerry's military records by saying, "you first". This despite the fact that Bush has signed his Form 180, and the fact that it's a childish tactic if I've ever seen one.
A consolation here is that in their zeal to defend Kerry from the very though of anyone even questioning the very war record he was parading at his own convention, the media has advanced this story to the point where specific allegations must be refuted by John Kerry himself.
Kerry defenders can huff and puff all they want. The only way I think this can go away for Kerry is if he simply defends himself on the facts.
But it looks like he's content to attack, distract, and pull out his tongue at all accusers. This is the best guy the Democrats could find to run for the Oval Office?
