At the risk of being bounced for redundancy, I was just wondering if they offered anything substantive to rebut the specific charges made against Kerry.

Rood made a one-time statement which didn't really contradict anything the SVBT have charged against Kerry.

And I tried doing a search on these vets who now say they support Kerry, but their comments seemed more about generalities than specific defenses of Kerry's stories.

Despite all of the huffing and puffing we're getting from the media, I don't think Kerry or his veteran supporters have substantively dealt with the accusations made in "Unfit for Command". The media just assumes the offical record has not been verifiably contradicted and brush off even the expectation of facts from Team Kerry. Shocked

The on things that surprises me about Mr. Rood is that he did not come forward until AFTER John Kerry called him. It would seem to be, as a fellow vet, that if you knew of a group of vets slandering someone you supported you would take a stand a lot earlier, especially since Mr. Rood is editor of a major newspaper. - Another little tid bit, from my understanding, Mr. Rood was not ON the boat either - so if the swiftvets who were not on the boat unable to be believeable because they were not all the boat then why is Mr. Rood. Just my opinion.

The other so called "band of brothers" seems to have disappeared, other than Rassman. I still question Rassman's ability to see everything clearly as by his own words he was in the water and was underwater as most of the time, coming up for breath only, as he thought they were under fire - so how could he see where and what John Kerry was doing.

That is my observations on the subject for what it is worth Very Happy

Do you think Rassman was put in for a medal that day and who wrote it up?

It is an excellent question. What kind of medal would you be eligable for if you fell out of a boat and swam around in the river until you got picked up? I never heard anyone say Rassmann was wounded, that he returned fire, or that he did anything "heroic" after Kerry fished him out of the drink. If he got a medal, he has some explaining to do (maybe Kerry put him in for something earlier in the day, like not mentioning Kerry fragged himself?) Where would we find this out (Rassmann medal)?

The recent story told by a witness of some sort on Kerry's side said he DOVE INTO the water to save Rassman. In that case, maybe Kerry filled Rassman in on what was happening in between getting gulps of air and diving? or maybe he had his personal home video camera with and filmed the whole thing?

I note O'Neill on a recent radio show explaining this incident the way Kerry tells it, and when he got to the part about Kerry taking off in his boat, he said, he drove away, or as I understand it now, dove into the water,... and continued on with the story. Didn't skip a beat. HA!! Laughing Laughing It would be interesting to make a list of all the variations of the Rassmann story....

Kerry's and Rassman's stories depend upon there being enemy return fire. If there was no enemy fire, then there was nothing heroic about John Kerry returning and picking up Rassman from the water. If there was nothing heroic about John Kerry picking Rassman up from the water, then there was no medal award. You do not get a medal for a man overboard, and just picking him up.

Now, do you begin to see the picture here?

Not all, but I did repeat a few, many I first saw noted right on these boards.
