this is quick,as I did it on an aurplane tonight, but I have seen at least three or four discrepancies between Rodd's account of 28 Feb 1969 and Kerry's account.
Rood wrote that “The troops, led by an Army adviser (this would be Doug Reese), jumped off the boats and began a sweep, which killed another half dozen VC, wounded or captured others and found weapons, blast masks and other supplies used to stage ambushes.”
Rood’s account differs sharply from Brinkley’s book, which is taken from Kerry’s journal, which says one VC was killed.
Rood also wrote “As we headed for the riverbank, I remember seeing a loaded B-40 launcher pointed at the boats. It wasn't fired as two men jumped up from their spider holes. “
Brinkley: Kerry reports that a rocket struck near his boat blowing out the port window.
Rood: “It wasn't fired as two men jumped up from their spider holes.”
Brinkley: It was one man.
Rood: “Meanwhile, Kerry ordered our boat to head upstream with his”
Brinkley: Only Kerry’s boat went upstream. |
