well for one and a pretty big reason if you are on dial up like i am ,,you don't have to sit there and watch the movie ,,there are links right there to click on so you don't have to watch the ad ,and you can move to the rest of the site with out watching the ad

so what is the problem ??

The problem is that the script kiddies that want to launch hundreds of simultaneous broadband connections to a site that autoplays bandwidth intensive multimedia really WISH the SBVFT would cooperate just a little bit with crashing the site.

That's the REAL issue. The AD isn't what is fueling the debate, it's the ANALYSIS and DATA available here. The ad is the spark, the boards are the conflagration.

And they just can't STAND that.

Exactly, running the ad in the front end, every single time, just becomes a waste of time. It turns folks away.

Outside events, and the availability of counter-news sourcing here, is what makes the site hot.

Does everyone go through the index.htm page every time they visit this site? I don't.

I bookmarked the main BB (forum) site and the Info page with the Swift Boat Vet picture.
Most of the time, I don't even log out.

My Reality check, I have cable
(yes, we have that here in WV) and
forget what it's like for those of you on dial-up.

Amen to that BINGO! I would never take advice from Mike, or anyone that provides NO bonafides, or contact info in his profile. In fact his profile is blank, and as worthy as his advice.

As for the auto loading of a commercial, in most cases, that will cause me to close the page. Maybe that isn't true of everyone, but folks don't like to be forced into things. Perhaps that's why AOL is, and has been, on the decline. A typical liberal attitude, "We know what's best for you, you're to dumb to understand." Evil or Very Mad

I didn't like his tone ("I am an expert"....) - the repeated list of pts ... like a pounding, sort of. Anyway, I think the setup is fine the way it is. Extracts of the ad are on TV all the time and if people want more, they might play it here. If they skip it and look around the main page, there's all kinds of wonderful things there (incl the videos: press conf, etc) -- if they skip that and just go straight into the forum -- how can they not get caught up in the message? Actually, the discussions going on here might be more powerful than the ad with regard to people "getting emotionally involved," because when people enter, they are enveloped in our truth seeking and the beating of the drums demanding justice for JK, all in the name of the mission of the SBVFT.

I don't know anything about internet traffic or marketing -- but just in general one would think there would be an ebb & flow of donations, and I'm not worried about it. There is the possibility that the republ convention can turn all attention away from this story, but it will probably be snapped back by an unpredictable Swiftee move. There is also the possibility that Kerry will do/say something that will bring people flocking to this site. He's sort of acting like a loose cannon now. I think there are way too many variables to say one way or the other. My humble opinion is that this site is absolute FABULOUS just the way it is.

Agreed. People can click a button to watch the ad (hope they do!), but when the ad autoplays, it becomes an in-your-face "pop-up" - that's an annoyance and a turn off in my book. Swiftees are handling it correctly IMHO.

As an internet marketer myself, I THINK I know what Mike is TRYING To say. It is the marketing science when one sees the same "ad" repeatedly, one will be "sold" on the product. If someone is usually interested in a product, It usually takes up to 6 or 9 times of viewing (I can't remember which) an ad before someone then commits to buying it. I think Mike is applying that Marketing principle of viewing the Swiftboat ad in reaching fence straddlers.

Did I get it right, Mike?

I do wish the ad would come on automatically as it did before. People are reached through all avenues, a cogent letter, fact filled website, forums or a gut wrenching TV ad. I'm not a statistics person, I'm just glad people are giving!

There is an easy way to find out. The fact remains that $300,000 was raised on the 20th, the last day the ad loaded automatically.

Certainly you won't lose money by trying out my theory.

Also, The first ad should be availabe somewhere on your site.

Look, they don't have any input as to what gets put on the site, why are you even dropping your bad advice, here?

You don't have anything with which to compare this $300K that you keep citing, so back off.

Our viewership is way up since the ad stopped loading automatically.

I already told you that we had a lot of complaints about it and after the ad was set as an OPTION, the complaints stopped.

The first rule of web design - do NOT chase off your visitors.

Don't use flash splash pages, don't play music, don't mess with their cursors, don't force downloads.

It's working and the information here is available for visitors, with more being added every day. That's the most important thing - that the information gets out. But, somehow, I think you knew that. Wink

I like the add not starting automatically. However, I would like access to the old add. Is it somewhere I have not noticed?

As far as I know, it's only available off site.

Maybe they'll bring the first one back after the interest in the second one dies down some.
