The trouble is most of the leftie morons involved in the the Kerry campaign
(1) never served
(2) hate the militaryand everything associated
(3) have no qualms about exploiting the service/tragedy of others for their political ploys
(4) they tolerate those that served around them only so they can use their service

(AKA -- Hilary Clinton and the Marine escorts "what good are you" when he would not carry her bag)

I'm a news junkie, and never have heard about that. I guess those incidents don't have the same visual impact as a triple amputation, and that is why they aren't used.

I believe any critical comments about Max should be directed at his words and ideas and not at his unfortunate accident and horrific injuries.

It's regrettable that Max Cleland uses his unfortunate injuries to score partisan political points in the same way Kerry uses his fraudulent medals. He's quite content to let the majority of people think he was injured in combat, as Kerry was content to let most people think he was Irish. They are liars by omission.

It's fair game to call them on that fraud. Liars don't get a free pass.

'nuff said about Max Cleland.

I think this gets back to part of the problem I have with what the DNC has done with Kerry. They've elevated him to mythic status as well, and he's gone along with it--and indeed started the ball rolling many years ago.

As for Cleland, I again fault the DNC for how they are presenting him. He served honorably and has perservered through a terrible tragedy. But to hear Terry McCauliffe proclaim in a rant against Bush that, "Max Cleland who left three limbs on a battlefield in Vietnam," is just not right. Nor is saying that Bush was AWOL helping anybody either.

Misrepresenting oneself, or someone else, is a huge no-no in my book. It speaks to the lack of honesty, motivations, manipulations and obfuscations that person embraces for political or social gain.

Didn't Cleland head up the Department of Veteran Affairs under Clinton. I think he is still PO'ed over being replaced, his partisanship and hostility has got him in the 'bad books'.

I do admire Cleland for his service, but he seems a bitter, angry man
as a result of the defeat in his Senate race. He was defeated, not by
the "Bush attack machine", but because the state of Georgia has become
increasingly more Republican in recent years and because he opposed
the Patriot Act in the aftermath of 9/11. I know people that have been
disabled and were able to use their experience to be a blessing to others
rather than letting themselves be used for political purposes. I do not
see why being a triple amputee automatically qualifies some for a
Senate career, no more than being the wife of an ex-President made
Hillary qualified to be the junior Senator from New York.

BTW, I do remember reading about how Bill and Hillary treated the
members of the military that served in the White House with the upmost
comtempt. The Clintons thought the soldiers were there to be their
servants and did not show them the respect they so richly deserve.

Cleland was VA Secretary.

Has anyone ever seen Cleland in public before with his stump exposed as it was today at Crawford? His sleeve rolled up?
How low into the pit-of-ghoulish sympathy pandering will they go? And how can anyone have the cynical crassness to so abuse a disabled veteran, or to induce him to do it to himself?

And then they script him to complain that the SBVT are maligning all honorable Vietnam Vets by implication! How? By exposing the one person in all of American history who vilified and slandered more so than anyone else, ever, not only veterans but military personnel actively serving in a time of war!

"BRING IT ON!"
"Please, please stop it!"

I hope you all know the facts of the story of the Marine Guards who stand duty at the steps of "Marine One," the helicopter that carries the President to/from the White House lawn. Look at any film clip today, and compare it to any from Clinton's days. As President Bush (and all other Presidents except Clinton) step onto the lawn, the Marine salutes, then executes a "right face" as the president passes. With Clinton, they never executed the "right face."

In Navy/Marine Corps tradition, the Captain always had a Marine Orderly a few staeps away on the bridge, as a messenger, in the days before electronic communications. The Orderly always turned to be available as the Captain moved into and about the bridge, and literally followed him around. The "right face" is a vestige of that old routine, signifying the Marine's recognition of The Commander.

Whenever a letter mentions "Our Pain" (as the letter intended for Bush did), it's not worth reading the rest. "Our pain" is a Leftist codeword (or, more accurately, code phrase) and what follows will usually follow the same script (i.e., we are victims and our rights were violated by the recipient, who is a villain if he/she does not make restitution of some kind.

See how that works?

Rabbit Trail here

There seemed to be A LOT of accidents that happened over there especially with helicopters. I guess it goes with the territory. I remember in '70, a friend of mine's father was killed in Vietnam. He was a helicopter pilot. My friend was like me, the oldest of a large family and the only girl. I also remember the gory details my friend told me. (((shudder)))What I didn't know was (and I guess you don't ask and they don't tell you when you're 13) how the death occurred. I had always thought he had been shot down in some fierce battle. It wasn't until I looked his name up at the Virtual Wall and saw the brief incident report that I saw it had been an accident and not hostile fire.

The pyschology of Cleland receiving those horrific wounds in an accident in the Vietnam "conflict" and then coming home to such a "welcome" , well, it's beyond my understanding how he coped .

ASPB

Didn't mean to say anything negative about Cleland previous to the grenade incident, nor to say he didn't deserve his medals. I was just trying to put together the incident for the day he got injured in a short post. I don't think anything was "heroic" about that incident, just a tragic accident.

Max Cleland lost his senate seat to Saxby Chambliss for one reason: he was one of the main guys (after Ted Kennedy, of course) trying to fix it so the Homeland Security employees could not be fired if they proved to be incompetent.

Kennedy and Cleland and other liberals wanted to set it up so the Homeland Security has the same union coverage as teachers; which practically means life long tenure and can't be fired even if they turn out to be incompetent and can't do the job.

President Bush would NOT stand for this playing politics with national security. He held firm until he was sure that the people who work for the Homeland Security are hired, promoted, and if necessary, fired, based on merit and nothing else.

Cleland was seen for what he was: a guy who was putting liberal politics and socialist type employement for others above the safety of this country.

It led to his defeat. And the Dem's said that Chambliss 'attacked' the 'patriotism' of Max Cleland by attacking his votes in Congress.

Same tired tactic Kerry is using today.

if Bush points to Kerry's weak on defense voting record, the Dem's caterwaul that Bush has 'attacked Kerry's patriotism!'.

They aint fooling anybody with half a brain.

......

In 2003, President Bush appointed Cleland to a seat on the Board of Directors of the Export/Import Bank, a nice, cushy job with an annual salary of $136,000.

I guess this is the thanks the President gets.

What Cleland did in Crawford was despicable, and his Army injuries have nothing to do with it.

As I said on my main post. I used to have great respect for Max, and still do for his service., but I pity what he has become. He is now nothing but a shrill shrill for Kerry. They have turned him into a spectacle...

Hey Yall are doing a great thing.
When I found this site I was overcome with emotion.
I revere all that all of you have done.

Max it seems has one other problem. I hear he has his own "conflict of interest".
Seems he is working for Bush as a political appointee. 100 something grand a year.
Seems to me if he has a problem with anything Bush is doing the "Honorable" thing to do is resign.

Carry on.
