Quote:
As both sides continued to wrestle over commercials by Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, Republican Sen. John McCain, the former Vietnam POW who has praised Kerry's war record and campaigned with Bush, urged both sides to end the three-week argument.

"I just wish very much we would address the war we're fighting now and not reopen wounds of one that ended 30 years ago," McCain said.

Sorry Mr. McCain but this war didn't end 30 years ago it started 35 years ago, and that SOB wants to do the same to our guys in Iraq and the people of Iraq. I for one think you should be ashamed for trying to let this happen again with your remarks.

Everyone,

It's a start. I think that McCain may now realize that he made a mistake. Give it time.... In fact today his silence (and refusal to sign that letter) was deafening.

He was quoted this morning on Fox News as saying "he plans to let President Bush know of his displeasure with the ad when they are together again." He still doesn't get it.

Go SwiftVets!

McCain is a liberal who is in the wrong party. (Removed irrlevant comments) His thirty year old war record does not make him a hero with me.

I cant wait for him to move on over to the other side.

He is going to be doing a lot of campaigning with President Bush in the next few days and right after the convention.

Even he knows that he has to tone it down and keep a low profile.

But lets not be fooled - he is only helping Bush now because he wants to accumulate IOU's for another run for President in 2008.

He won't get my vote in the primary.

I dont think we should be pressuring Mc Cain, hes entitled to his opinion and hes not running for office(yet) . He sees now his initial remarks were poorly spoken and thoughtless, thats the best we're gonna get.
Focus on Kerry.

I agree we should focus on Kerry. However, part of that focus is getting McCain to retract his statement. I have e-mailed him about my displeasure. I did this in a respectful manner. I would ask everone to do the same it may make a difference.

McCain should reinforce publicly that he does NOT want to be used in Kerry's ads and comments by all Kerry's spokespeople! That's the disgrace IMO.

(Admin - Steve, please see my note further on in this thread. It was not McCain's conduct as a POW being questioned, it was his seat on the Senate Select Committee on POW/MIA Affairs - chaired by John Kerry)

arymann-- I think McCain must've said something to Kerry, because they've agreed to pull their recent ads showing McCain chastising Bush in 2000. McCain has also applauded Bush's efforts to limit the 527s to using "hard money" only. (I think that means people will have a maximum amount they can donate, like $2000).

If the above is true then McCain has no reason to be mad at Kerry for trashing vets in 71 as he had already given his honor and therefor Kerry's statements did not effect him. Another possibility is that the Vietnamese have given Kerry documents proving the above and he is blackmailing McCain to support him against the swifys and in other areas such as the POW/MIA commission.
