Maybe someone could answer my question. I hear on TV and read how Kerry stood up and said SEND ME. I also heard that Kerry was deferred, to finish school, and when he did finish, tried to get another deferment which was refused. What does that mean---Draft . He then joined the USNR. If this is true I wonder if he met his full obligations. The news never comments on this. I joined the USNR in 1966 and it required 6 years total service, 2 years active duty, 4 years active reserves which for me was 1 meeting a week and 2 weeks active a year. It would be hard for me to believe Kerry completed the same, and had time to demonstrate.

I raised the same question. Apparently after Kerry earned his three Purple Hearts, he asked for and received Inactive Reserves status, period.

I believe that if you had completed a four year active duty tour you would NOT have to had spent time in the active reserve.

BTW, according to the records on his site, candidate Kerry actually spent a total or 10 years in the reserve before being issued an honorable discharge certificate.
