Say something like this:

"Dad, I don't understand what you went through and I know I never really will, but just remember; I love you."

Or words to that effect.

Then take him out for Ice Cream or something.

DaughterofVet, thank you for starting this thread. It helps me to understand a bit of what vets go through. I only had one relative, who went to Vietnam but he never talked about it, to my knowledge. And only one of my grandmother's brothers went off to WWII and I think he died in action, not sure about that. So I haven't lived with this in my family. My husband was in the Gulf War I, but he was more in the support rear end.

So I can see how when you've got a guy like Kerry doing what he does, he does strike a raw nerves everywhere.

Dear Nakona..are you sure you do not know my dad? Laughing ..He is an ice cream addict, and we have had many a father daughter talk over a cone or two..great idea..and words of thank you and love can never be heard enough..

Dear lolajl..thank you for being open to this thread, and I thank you to the mods for allowing it. But it it true..what Kerry has done, and is still doing..hurts vets in the deepest places.

I would like to say I feel I can trust you all with the worries of my dad, and our family..and you have helped me to understand that the "vet" of battle is a complex human being, and those that fight with them, and yes, after them are a family. I am just so grateful for the understanding.

PS> Dad doing better..still anger, but much better, he is getting his buddies together, and those that were going to vote for Kerry are no longer going to do so..because of what he did and is still doing to the vets in this country..

With deepest thanks,
PD..and dad too! Razz
