Have we gotten so sensitive that the media is afraid to publish the circunstances of Cleland's injury? I feel sorry for the guy(I am a non-service connected paraplegic) but he is no combat hero. Neither am I but I don't claim to be or allow others to give the impression that I am.

Max Cleland did serve honorably and with valor before the tragic accident that took his limbs.

He is to be commended for his service and his actions in battle.

The political theatrics this week were "a bit much," however.

Not too many talking heads calling it for what it is.

The Max Cleland that Kerry presents to the public is a fraud. Max should be ashamed of himself for allowing his disability to be used in the way that it is. Kerry says he lost three limbs, "left them on the battlefiled". That is a lie, and Kerry should be called on it, but the press will never do that.

Kerry is playing on the empathy that all Americans have for servicemen and women who have been disabled in the line of duty.

Cleland has been honest about his injuries in the past, but he is now allowing Kerry to use them as a club, and that is wrong and Max should rightfully be criticized for that.

It disgusts me that Kerry has brought us to this point.

Another reprehensible aspect of Cleland is that he is currently pulling down $150k per annum calling in attendence to the Import-Export Bank, a federal sinecure he was appointed to by....George W Bush.

This is what should make you sick.

...maybe Cleland should have started his rant with, ..."Reporting For Duty, Komrade Kerry".

That '70s Show

"I called the media. . . . I said, 'If I take some crippled veterans down to the White House and we chain ourselves to the gates, will we get coverage?' 'Oh, yes, we will cover that.' "--John Kerry, testimony before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, April 22, 1971

"Kerry is sending to Crawford former Sen. Max Cleland of Georgia, a frequent companion of Kerry's on the campaign trail and a fellow Vietnam War veteran who lost three limbs during the war (...didn't mention that it was due to an accident with a grenade and that he got NO Purple heart for losing THREE limbs while Kerry got THREE Purple Hearts for losing NOTHING...except his HONOR). Cleland . . . will try to deliver a letter protesting the [Swift Boat Veterans for Truth] ads to [President] Bush at his heavily guarded ranch, Kerry aides said."--Reuters, Aug. 25, 2004
