Key points:

3 different citations for his Silver Star with a V for Valor (V for Valor never awarded for silver stars) - very bizzare!

4 bronze stars added to his Vietnam Service Medal by DD215 on March 12, 2001 but according to the Navy spokesman, Kerry should only have two campaign stars: one for "Counteroffensive, Phase VI,"
and one for "Tet69, Counteroffensive."

Burkett, author of "Stolen Valor" recently filed a complaint that led last month to the sentencing of Navy Capt. Roger D. Edwards
to 115 days in the brig for falsification of his records.

Only 6 of 94 pages of records unreleased!

Senator McCain might want to back off his claims against the SBV for Truth and see where the dust settles!

I saw this article a few hours ago.
here is my "key point" question;

DD-215
are you serious?

From the article;
So far, there are also two varying citations for Kerry's Bronze Star, one by Zumwalt and the other by Lehman as secretary of the Navy, both posted on johnkerry.com.

Kerry's Web site also carries a DD215 form revising his DD214, issued March 12, 2001, which adds four bronze campaign stars to his Vietnam service medal.
.......

....Questions have been raised about President Bush's drill attendance in the reserves, but Bush received his honorable discharge on schedule. Kerry, who should have been discharged from the Navy about the same time -- July 1, 1972 -- wasn't given the discharge he has on his campaign Web site until July 13, 1978. What delayed the discharge for six years?

I thought ( from an article ) that
on Jan 1,1970, he was promoted to Lt. then,
on Jan 3,1970 he turned in his resignation to the USN.

Being a working man enlisted type myself,I am not sure what the procedures are for resigning your commision.

Does it require submitting a formal letter of explaination why you are walking away? That letter isn't a public record I suppose.

Airedale:
Kerry was a LTJG at the time of his release from active duty @2400 3JAN70. As a reserve officer, he retained his commission after his release to the IRR. His non-drilling reserve commitment was to have terminated on 17FEB72 (six years after his initial enlistment in the inactive Standby Reserve in FEB66 as OCSA prior to starting NAVOCS in AUG66), but he may have elected to retain his commission for longer. Officers are political appointees who serve at the pleasure of the President. They do not serve under enlistment contracts for fixed terms.

This will put a smile on your face.

Kerry citation a total mystery to ex-Navy chief

http://www.suntimes.com/output/elect/cst-nws-lips28.html

Former Navy Secretary John Lehman has no idea where a Silver Star citation displayed on Democractic presidential nominee John Kerry's
campaign Web site came from, he said Friday. The citation appears over Lehman's signature.

"It is a total mystery to me. I never saw it. I never signed it. I never
approved it. And the additional language it contains was not written by me, " he said.

The additional language varied from the two previous citations, signed first by Adm. Elmo Zumwalt and then Adm. John Hyland, which themselves differ. The new material added in the Lehman citation reads in part: "By his brave actions, bold initiative, and unwavering devotion to duty, Lieutenant (jg) Kerry reflected great credit upon himself...."

Asked how the citation could have been executed over his signature with his knowledge, Lehman said: "I have no idea. I can only imagine they were signed by an autopen." The autopen is a device often used in the routine execution of executive documents in government.

Kerry senior adviser Michael Meehan could not be reached for comment on Kerry's records.

Based on the above statement:

(1) Who was asked to prepare the citation, who prepared it, when was it prepared, and to whom and when was it submitted?

(2) Was there contact between Kerry (or members of his staff, or others) with then-Secretary of the Navy John Lehman (or members of his staff, or others) concerning the citation.

Kerry was a Senator at this time.

Kerry will never sign Form 180.
