Am not familiar with the woman doing the reporting (just saw the name Lisa Myers), but there seems to be a fairly balanced presentation of both sides of the issue of the first purple heart. |

That was a fairly balanced piece, but NBC News (1,000X audience) ran an abbreviated version earlier. With selective editing it was a real hatchet job. Over and over she said: all available documentation favors Kerry. No mention at all of missing documentation. Typical MSM.

I saw the NBC newscast and came away with a far different impression on the Lisa Myers "reality" check. Basically, I came away with the impression that the Swift Boat Vets had NO documentation and her final point was that the Vets would have a difficult time convincing people now that President Bush said that he did not believe that Kerry was lying. |

Like I said, the NBC News version was a hatchet job, as most of the pro swifty stuff ended up on the cutting room floor. The MSNBC version was reasonably balanced.

John Kerry also has NO documentation.
Funny how Kerry doesn't need documentation but anyone who differs with him does. _________________ "If he believes his 1971 indictment of his country and his fellow veterans was true, then he couldn't possibly be proud of his Vietnam service." |

Ya know, I find it incredible that the MSM would use a quote from GW that he didn't think JK was lying as somehow reducing the credibility of the swift vets.
Like he knows anything about it first hand...if that is what they consider a source, then just about anything they report on is suspect...IMHO
They (MSM) are either stupid, or, more likely, think all of us citizens are! |

I can't watch any network news anymore. They have all lost credibility.
G.W. is a good decent man who needs to be above reproach on the issue of Kerry. You know that inside he relishes the squirming Kerry has to endure. However, it would be political suicide for him to show overt backing to the SBVT or for that matter covert backing (thus the double standard--the dem's can hosts, participate, and overtly interact with all of G.W. attack dogs groups but not the Republicans). I do, however, question G.W.'s attempt to silence the 527's with the help of Sen. McCain. I'm not really confident this is a political stunt or a real desire to muzzle free/political speech--THE FIRST ADDMENTMENT. I didn't think he would sign McCain-Finegold(Sp?) when it came across his desk. He still has my solid support, especially in contrast to Kerry.

I think McCain's approach to 527's is a solid one - they are involved in partisan activity, so they should have contribution restrictions just like the candidates and the national committees.
Otherwise, future elections will be about whoever has the most money.
Republicans got the short end of the stick this year because they were counting on the FEC to shut down the 527s and didn't counter quickly enough with their own. If 527s are allowed to continue unchecked in the future, both sides will have a lot more 527 activity than the Democrats did this year. |
