The following quotes come from an Oct 15 2003 article (http://www.hillnews.com/news/101503/kerry.aspx)

Quote:
Howard Dean’s presidential campaign sharply criticized Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) yesterday for seemingly flip-flopping on the importance of serving in Vietnam in presidential politics. .

Wow... flip-flopping being used back in Oct 15 of 2003.
I wonder what the earliest recorded date Kerry and Flip-flop were associated with each other in a news article?

Quote:
Kerry seeks to distinguish himself from his White House rivals — both Democratic and Republican — by drawing attention to his war record. But this emphasis stands in marked contrast to his past utterances about service in Vietnam as a qualification for the highest office.

“Before he became a political candidate for president, John Kerry clearly believed that military service should not be used for political gain,” said Jay Carson, a spokesman for Dean, the former governor of Vermont who is running well ahead of Kerry in recent New Hampshire polls.

“And he was right about that,” Carson added. “Unfortunately, now John Kerry and his campaign have a strategy to use that record to further his political career.”

On numerous occasions this year, Kerry cited his distinguished war record as a decisive factor in who should be the nominee. As a naval officer, Kerry earned the Silver Star, the Bronze Star with combat V, and three Purple Hearts for his service on a gunboat patrolling the Mekong.

Hey look, no combat V on this Silver Star mention.

Quote:
In October 1992, Kerry again defended Clinton from remarks by President George H.W. Bush.

...

“You and I know that if service or non-service in the war is to become a test of qualification for high office, you would not have a vice president, nor would you have a secretary of defense, and our nation would never recover from the divisions created by that war.”

Then Vice President Dan Quayle served in the National Guard. Dick Cheney, then Defense secretary and now vice president, never served.

“It’s unfortunate that [Kerry’s Vietnam record] has become the stock answer for almost every issue for Kerry’s campaign,” said an aide to a rival campaign. “At a certain point, Kerry’s going to have to articulate a vision that speaks to voters across America and not simply lapse into his military record.”

and here is a quote from a different article
Quote:
The issue here, as I have heard it raised, is was he present and active on duty in Alabama at the times he was supposed to be. . . . Just because you get an honorable discharge does not in fact answer that question.

--John Kerry, questioning President Bush's
military-service record, February 8, 2004.

It doesn't matter, it does matter...

Kerry aligned himself with the popular anti-war movement back after he scurried out of Vietnam early. Some College mates say he has had political aspirations all along. He ran for office as an anti-war candidate and failed miserably.

After Reagan got into office, and Vietnam service became a popular thing, with tons of phonies claiming to have served, he drug out his disposed of emdals and ran for office again, claiming his war veteran status and often, throwing that against is opponent.

He's used his Vietnam service ever since to hold title to his Senate seat. He used it again this time, but failed to figure in the thousands and thousands of veterans he slandered and lied about back in 1971.

The man is an opportunist and will pull any trick he can to gain personal power. I'm surprised the Navy had a size 42 hat to fit his head.

Kerry has shown that he can't take the heat of criticism. You Vets have a done a wonderful job of exposing not only his lies, but this shortcoming of his as well. If he had an ounce of political sense, he would have offered some vague apology to all the soldiers he may have offended and made some soppy plea for healing our wounds. Instead, he can't discipline himself and instead has decided to duke it out with you. Just plain stupid.

And now the RNC will be kicking off. My guess is that rather than just letting it blow over, Kerry will feel compelled to try to rebut, point by point, every criticism that is levelled at him from the Republicans.

I predict that by the time it's over, Kerry won't be able to leave his room without mobs of people spontaneously singing the theme from Flipper. The song will soon be SEARED ... SEARED into his mind.

All together now:

They call him Flipper, Flipper
Lives in a world full of wonder
Flying thereunder
Under the sea
