This is outstanding! Here are some snippets, but you have to read the entire article to get the full feel for this.
http://www.suntimes.com/output/elect/cst-nws-lips27.html
Quote: | The Kerry campaign has repeatedly stated that the official naval records prove the truth of Kerry's assertions about his service.
But according to a U.S. Navy spokesman, "Kerry's record is incorrect. The Navy has never issued a 'combat V' to anyone for a Silver Star."
"I've run across several claims for Silver Stars with combat V's, but they were all in fake records," he said.
Burkett recently filed a complaint that led last month to the sentencing of Navy Capt. Roger D. Edwards to 115 days in the brig for falsification of his records.
Reporting by the Washington Post's Michael Dobbs points out that although the Kerry campaign insists that it has released Kerry's full military records, the Post was only able to get six pages of records under its Freedom of Information Act request out of the "at least a hundred pages" a Naval Personnel Office spokesman called the "full file."

Outstanding.
the article has been out since this morning and no other press has picked it up except Drudgereport
MSM could be hit over the head with the truth and would do their best to ignore it.until they could collectively come up with a way to debunk. So far they havent.
I tried google news.and got 1 result the suntimes.MSM will not report for duty! and it seems by the artical ,Kerry may not have done his in the reserves Plus did not deserve 2 of the additional 4 bronze stars that were awarded after his service.
Quote: | but Bush received his honorable discharge on schedule. Kerry, who should have been discharged from the Navy about the same time -- July 1, 1972 -- wasn't given the discharge he has on his campaign Web site until July 13, 1978. What delayed the discharge for six years? This raises serious questions about Kerry's performance while in the reserves that are far more potentially damaging than those raised against Bush |
Quote: | Kerry's Web site also carries a DD215 form revising his DD214, issued March 12, 2001, which adds four bronze campaign stars to his Vietnam service medal. The campaign stars are issued for participation in any of the 17 Department of Defense named campaigns that extended from 1962 to the cease-fire in 1973.
However, according to the Navy spokesman, Kerry should only have two campaign stars: one for "Counteroffensive, Phase VI," and one for "Tet69, Counteroffensive."
|
Quote: | Burkett, who has spent years working with the FBI, Department of Justice and all of the military services uncovering fraudulent files in the official records, is less charitable: "The multiple citations and variations in the official record are reason for suspicion in itself, even disregarding the current swift boat veterans' controversy." |

No, you're reading that wrong, or misunderstanding. It's not an ADDITIONAL 4, it's a TOTAL of 4.
And yes, actually, he DOES rate them, even if the Navy says he didn't. Someone didn't do the proper research in the Navy, and failed to credit him with two additional campaign stars for service with the USS GRIDLEY.
The USS GRIDLEY was in Vietnam territorial waters twice while Lt Kerry was aboard.
According to OPNAVNOTE 1650 (Unit Awards and Citations Master List), USS GRIDLEY (DLG 21) is credited with the Vietnam Service Medal for the period 16-Mar-1968 to 29-Mar-1968 and 03-Apr-1968 to 07-May-1968
This coincides with the following campaigns:
- Tet Counteroffensive (Army, Navy, USCG): January 30 to April 1, 1968
- Vietnam Counteroffensive, Phase IV (Army, Navy, USCG): April 2 to June 30, 1968
He was in Vietnam with the Swifts from November 1968 to March 1969, which coincides with the following campaigns:
- Vietnam Counteroffensive, Phase VI (Army, Navy, USCG): Nov 2, 1968 to Feb 22, 1969
- Tet 1969 Counteroffensive (Army, Navy, USAF, USCG): February 23 to June 8, 1969
So, yes. He DOES rate four campaign stars. This point is so moot, it's not worth pursuing. We've got much bigger fish to fry. _________________ USMC 69-72, 7th Comm, 3rd MarDiv, FMFPAC

Joe Scarborough interviewed Thomas Lipscomb (Chicago Sun-Times journalist) on MSNBC this evening. So, the MSN has decided to report this story, probably figuring that it's better to provide a story a pro-Kerry spin (to minimize damage to the Kerry campaign) than it is to ignore a story completely (as they did with "Christmas in Cambodia for 11 days). |

The MSM can ignore this story if they want to but it will be picked up by talk radio, cable news and spread on the internet. I agree the current strategy is to try to put a positive spin on this type of story to minimize damage to Kerry. |

Thanks cipher, for nailing that down.
Would you please put a link to that post in the Consolidation thread in the R&R forum?
We want to deal with facts, here.
Some leeway is allowed for speculation and comparing stories and citing links and such, but as far as possible, we want to deal with what is known.
The truth is on our side and the truth is winning.

You're cool, pmc3rcc
It's just that this has come up before and I haven't seen anyone reply for sure exactly which campaigns qualified for the devices.
