Quote: | Similarly, recent comments by the likes of Pelosi, Kennedy, Clinton (the Sen.), and others border on sedition, if for no other reason than the fact that there is no longer any local news: the internet and satellite communications make it likely that more foreigners were watching Gore's diatribe than American citizens. And you can bet it will be faithfully trancribed for the Al Jazeera readers. |
I'm sure you were equally outraged by Tom DeLay during the Boznia/Kosovo conflict.
Quote: | “Bombing a sovereign nation for ill-defined reasons with vague objectives undermines the American stature in the world. The international respect and trust for America has diminished every time we casually let the bombs fly. We must stop giving the appearance that our foreign policy is formulated by the Unabomber.” Floor Statement on Resolution on Peacekeeping Operations in Kosovo, 3/11/99
“I rise today to state that no defense funds should be used for ground forces in Kosovo unless authorized by Congress.” Floor Statement, 4/15/99
“So what they are doing here is they are voting to continue an unplanned war by an administration that is incompetent of [sic] carrying it out. I hope my colleagues will vote against this resolution.” Floor Statement on S. Con. Res. 21, 4/15/99 |

Oops, forgot one.
“I cannot support a failed foreign policy. History teaches us that it is often easier to make war than peace. This administration is just learning that lesson right now. The President began this mission with very vague objectives and lots of unanswered questions. A month later, these questions are still unanswered. There are no clarified rules of engagement. There is no timetable. There is no legitimate definition of victory. There is no contingency plan for mission creep. There is no clear funding program. There is no agenda to bolster our overextended military. There is no explanation defining what vital national interests are at stake. There was no strategic plan for war when the President started this thing, and there still is no plan today.” Floor Statement, 4/28/99
So who protested Tom Delays statements at these times? |

Wait a minute! I just remembered something...I think. Did the U.S. have a UN resolution to make war in Kosovo? _________________ "If he believes his 1971 indictment of his country and his fellow veterans was true, then he couldn't possibly be proud of his Vietnam service." |

So your outrage is reserved for any one other than a Republican making statements like that. |

Thanks for a good reply Richard, I thought about it and can see your point. If I may, I think you're implying that the company a man keeps, the affiliations he makes, and by extension the party he joins...says things about that man's judgement and character.
If thats what you mean, I can understand your point of view, and in a little bit of a stretch of that login, could see why an attack on Gore would be relevant on this site. Like I said, a little bit of a stretch, but at least you explained the point well.
BTW, I'm also in Florida, in Tampa. |

Take it easy , Mike. You know better than to try to put words in my mouth.
That was a gentle reminder to our friends on the left that believe in "internationalism" that THEIR outrage is selective.
What was in our national interest about Kosovo? Where was /is the UN?
Do we still have forces there? How long will they be there? What is the plan for disengagement? _________________ "If he believes his 1971 indictment of his country and his fellow veterans was true, then he couldn't possibly be proud of his Vietnam service." |

For me it goes much, much further than just lying about one aspect of Kerry's life. I am against the attitude that one can say anything they like and call it free speech. Kerry's testimony before Congress was a most egregious example of lying and political opportunism. But he is not alone. Ted Kennedy is just as guilty. |
Here's another of those Merriam-Webster moments:
Main Entry: dem·a·gogue
Variant(s): or dem·a·gog /'de-m&-"gäg/
Function: noun
Etymology: Greek dEmagOgos, from dEmos people (perhaps akin to Greek daiesthai to divide) + agOgos leading, from agein to lead -- more at TIDE, AGENT
1 : a leader who makes use of popular prejudices and false claims and promises in order to gain power
2 : a leader championing the cause of the common people in ancient times
- dem·a·gogu·ery /-"gä-g(&-)rE/ noun
- dem·a·gogy /-"gä-gE, -"gä-jE, -"gO-jE/ noun |

True, Sparky. On www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2000/ you can also find Gore's popular vote: 50,996,116.
Gore won the popular vote and lost the Electoral College.
You know what the Electoral College is, don't you, Sparky?
BTW, your 17% for Bush is a bit off. |
No, Sparky's figure is not off.
Sparky is a GOD and knows that in the minds of 33,209,280 people who voted for Bush, they really meant to vote for Gore. You see, if they were not under the spell of the Evil Republican God BadJuJu, they would have voted for Gore.
We should WORSHIP AT THE FEET OF THE GOD SPARKY |

Still dodging the question Carpro. WE had soldiers in the field when these statements were made, were you outraged? |

Carpro those were democrat decisions, they don't count. The only thing that needs to be explained is what Bush does. But besides that you make a very good point, where is that exit strategy? My daughter-in law's brother is over there right now, I will email him and ask those questions, maybe he knows. Oh he is in the National Guard so it isn't military service anyway so his opinion doesn't count. Keep up the good work carpro the educated know what you are saying.
