I don't understand why so many people have gotten the facts unclear about the Swift Vets and their message.

The facts are unclear because the Democrats and the MSM keep muddying the water and claiming things as facts that are not facts at all.

Because you have the facts from the Swifties that ultimately work against Kerry's election hopes and the MSM obfuscating anything and everything to help prop Kerry back up again. When the facts don't support your position, confusion over the facts is the next best thing.

Facts are facts, how can they be confusing no matter what the topic is?

The problem is that waaaaaaay too many people get their information from headlines & sound bites & polls, and not from actually listening or reading the story.... and therefore they do not KNOW the facts. If they did, the fog of confusion would be instantly lifted.

The pollsters could easily introduce bias into the poll to skew the results. The Bloomberg article also is clearly biased in favor of Kerry with quotes such as "unsubstantiated claims from Swift Boat Veterans" and "official Navy report verifies Kerry's claims". The entire poll is available at

At the very bottom there is a little aside that says the data was collected from August 6 through 28Aug, with weighting emphasis on 23-28Aug. When the news first started heating up weeks ago, the Kerry camp was locked in the "Blame Bush" for the ads mode. I hope as people have seen the Swift Boat Vets more and more, that they are intelligent enough to see that the they vets are doing this as a manner of honor.

The problem is that a "fact" is a piece of information presented as having a rational and objective reality. The MSM is neither objective nor rational so the "facts" are obfuscated to favor some alternate "reality". Adding to the confusion is the introduction of "facts" by the opposition where the belief (and common practice) is that opinions and suppositions become facts if they're shouted loudly and with conviction. IMO, it's dishonest, disingenous and downright unethical but nothing new.

Okay, let's lower the level of rhetoric to below the flash point, please?

We have a LOT of Democrats who are supporting Swifts, here. They cannot be made to feel as if they're in a hostile environment.

As John O'Neill has often said, (paraphrased) "The government didn't send Democrats and Republicans to Vietnam, they sent people."

People get confused when the message gets complicated.

The Swift Vet ads are simple and to the point.

We need to avoid any "he said - she said" arguments and name calling.

The main issue here is candidate Kerry making his Vietnam war record the foundation of his campaign and his absolute refusal to back his claims up with official proof.

His Vietnam related actions upon his release from active duty are also an issue for veterans in general, because he PERSONALLY is responsable for the animosity heaped on returning veterans.

The problem is deeper than the Left trying to muddy the waters.

As far as the Left is concerned, the waters are ALWAYS, and SHOULD be muddied. The Left subscribes to "Moral Relativism". In a nutshell, they think that there is no right and wrong. Everything is relative. No society on earth is better than any other. For example, the left would take issue if you made the statement that "The United States is better than Somalia." They would argue that Somalia is what is good for the Somalians, and who are we to say it is better to have food, flushing toilets, computers, cars, jobs and a life expectancy three times theirs?

That said, the argument only goes one way-their way!
