Oh the play of words, WND states this:
Unfit for Command," the scathing critique of John Kerry's service in
Vietnam, will appear on the New York Times best-seller list at No.
1 on Sept. 5. _________________ Laura~ |

It would have been #1 if they would have printed more copies. _________________ Share the passion: http://www.MLSnet.com |

Unfit for Command!!!!! Just got back from a trip down to 2 of the largest chains of bookstores here in Charlotte. This book is SOLD OUT!!! That is sold out in a good way, not the Kerry kind of "sold out".
Was told by the employees they can not get enough copies. Demand is sky high.. _________________ JLF

As of 8/24/04, a Barnes&Noble store near me had about 15 copies left. But wouldn't 15 unread copies in CT be more useful in FL or OH or PA?
If any of you who want the book are frustrated by delivery delays, we might want to consider a system of book exchanges. If someone in a low-demand area posts that "there are X-number of books available in Y-city USA", others in high-demand "sold-out" areas could order books. Then the person in the low-demand area could buy the books and sell them at cost (book price + sales tax + postage).
While bookstore prices are higher than online outlets, it is crucial that the books get read BEFORE THE ELECTION, so extra time might be worth the money.
What do you think--does this sound reasonable? _________________ The traitor will crater! |

This would be a tradeoff between getting as many people to read the book as possible before the election and cutting into the book's sales - especially if/when Regnery gets even with the demand. The first objective - to get many readers - is very important, but I would suggest giving Regnery 3 or 4 weeks to catch up. Anybody else want to chime in on this?

We're all looking forward to how the Times describes the book in the one sentence summary on the bestseller list. No doubt it will be fair and balanced. |

Swift vets hit no. 1
Retired Gen. Tommy Franks' command of The New York Times best-seller list will be brief, because of the intense interest in what some other veterans have to say.
After two weeks at No. 1, Franks' "American Soldier" will drop to No. 2 on the list to be published Sept. 5, when "Unfit for Command," the account of the Swift boat vets against John Kerry, takes the top slot.
The book's rise is remarkable since the Sept. 5 list is based on sales last week, when copies were unavailable in many stores.
Demand had depleted Regnery Publishing's initial printing of 85,000 copies. It'll have 650,000 in print by next week.
Passions over the book have run so high - pro and con - that Amazon.com, where it's ranked No. 1 for days, has loosened its policy on post-your-own reviews.
In line with "presidential election year politics," Amazon says it'll allow personal attacks as long as they're not obscene.
A total of 1,151 customer reviews of "Unfit" were posted as of yesterday afternoon - an extraordinary total. |
