The swiftvets have touched on a raw nerve that screams for justice and stolen valor. I cannot help but think that upon John Kerry's most certain defeat, it would be right and fitting for these very veterans to return to the Vietnam Memorial and rededicate it to all the men and women who fought and died as well as those who returned to face the anger stirred up by a handful of left-wing radicals. The Vietnam Veterans had their honor stolen. Cursed for 34 years. I would like to add this quote so that all can read John Kerry's epilogue in The New Soldier.
We will not quickly join those who march on Veterans' Day waving small flags, calling to memory those thousands who died for the "greater glory of the United States." We will not accept the rhetoric. We will not readily join the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars...We will not take solace from the creation of monuments or the naming of parks after a select few of the thousands of dead Americans and Vietnamese. We will not uphold the traditions which decorously memorialize that which was base and grim. . . .
John F. Kerry
Epilogue to The New Soldier (1971)
It is my fondest hope that a rededication will be considered and, perhaps, be a new beginning for those who gave so much. Let John Kerry's defeat become the victory upon which old wounds can be laid to rest. That we may reclaim what was stolen and return it to its place of honor. _________________ Nomorelies Make a donation HERE |

A dedication of a memorial just as significant to all "Brown Water Sailors" of
the Vietnam war is already planned for next spring: May 21, 2005.
This will be held at the Vietnam Unit Memorial located in the Naval Amphib
Base on Coronado Island across from San Diego. We all trained at this base.
............... ...............
In addition to the small monument, the memorial is comprised of a wall
containing all the names of the sailors that are "still on patrol" and the
restored examples of a Swift Boat, a PBR, and a Mobile Riverine Force
Command and Communications Boat

That's great. Hope I can go although I am not a vet my heart is there.
My thinking was that perhaps all veterans from all the armed forces would need this as well.
Thanks for your input. I appreciate the information. _________________ Nomorelies Make a donation HERE |
